It should be on the list to hang out there and go for shopping, eating, and getting the general sense of the city there, so it is the main place for such activities. It is very close to the beach and it is parallel to the shore.

We spent an enjoyable morning here and had fresh pastries, coffee and orange juice. We were traveling but if I lived here this would be a weekly stop!

Having grown up in the area, I was familiar with the history of this stretch of beach. As a youngster, I spent many a summer day near the original Marion Davies beach house, which later became the Sand and Sea Club.

I'd just finished reading a novelization of Marion Davies' life, so decided to visit on a Sunday. The guest house is once again open and free tours are given from Friday through Monday by knowledgeable docents.

The storied guest house has been beautifully and carefully restored. If you love antique tile bathrooms, you're in for a treat. We visited both floors, and heard about the life and times of those who had stayed there.
After the tour, there's an opportunity to view a film about the life of Miss Davies, which is quite interesting.

The complex includes gardens, an art gallery, a splash pad for all, community space, and activities for a fee, including a beautiful outdoor pool that dates back to the original complex. The beachfront cafe is open again, too. Best of all, entry to the park is free. And the Pacific Ocean is literally across the way. A nice day out for tourists or locals.

We love coming to this mall. It's right at the end of the 3rd Street Promenade mall and very open and airy. They have a lot of shops, stores, and eateries including True Foods and The Curious Palate.

It's not a huge mall but it is fairly new and quite charming. They have some high end stores like Louis Vuitton and Tiffany's, and also a large selection of your typical mall shops.

The nice thing about coming here is that you are close to the Santa Monica Pier as well so you can check that out as well while you are here. Overall a very nice mall, however they do need some work on the food court. Most of the places inside are out of business.

A small museum with a great permanent collection on display. Welcoming lobby adds to the sort of hidden gem quality of the place. Well worth the visit.

With a few hours to spend before taking a flight out of LAX, we decided to visit downtown Santa Monica and check out the Adamms Gallery -- and it turned out to be a great decision. The trip over there took less than 40 minutes on a mid-day Thursday, and there is a public parking garage on the corner hardly half a block east of the gallery. (For the hour we were there, there was no charge for parking.) The gallery itself seemed like a riot of form and color; there are pieces everywhere, and since they sell works of many artists there was quite a variety of styles, sizes, and themes to peruse. Prices were about commiserate with what I've seen in other urban galleries. Our party settled on two very different pieces and arranged for them to be mailed. Adamms packed the pieces very securely and they arrived a few days later in perfect condition. Overall, a very agreeable experience from start to finish. We'll look forward to visiting again the next time we're in the Santa Monica area.
Note: in late-May, that nearby parking garage was undergoing renovation, and so it was a bit of a chore finding the ground-floor kiosk to validate our ticket.

We went here for a Friday night out in los angeles while we were visiting. It was very fun and all the staff was very friendly and helpful. Tony and Laura were fabulous! It is a great place for all skill levels who just want to have fun. I like that the pieces were challenging and not simple like a lot of other paint places.

The only negative that I can share is that they charge you a lot on Friday nights (maybe less on other nights). Snacks and drinks are included, but the snacks are mediocre and they only have one type of white and red and not very good wine.

A fun day out, took about 1 hour and 1/2 to do at a leisurely pace. A few really good dealers and some typical flea market folks but at least a lot of it was old. Really enjoyed myself and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Not a lot of food vendors so come prepared. Although there was a lovely restaurant near by called the Spitfire Grill was had some great sandwiches, etc. I would definitely go again!!

Craig Krull Gallery is one of Los Angeles's finest galleries of established and emerging artists, most of whom are associated with Southern California art. The gallery is helmed by Craig Krull who has been a gallerist for over 30 years and his assistant Beth who is also a fine artist herself.

I have known Craig since he worked at the Jan Turner Gallery in the eighties and he is extremely knowledgeable about Los Angeles art history and has a fine eye recognizing emerging artists with the assistance of Beth. He is perhaps the best dealer of quality pieces of Carlos Almaraz who is having his long overdue retrospective at LACMA in fall 2017 as part of the Getty's Pacific Standard Time. He also has a strong program of photography.

The galleries artists include Dan McCleary, Peter Alexander and a recent find Caroline Larsen, works of which are shown on their website and of which I attached a few.

Any tour of art galleries in Los Angeles should include a visit to the Craig Krull Gallery.

Absolutely charming, one-of-a-kind shop with a super cool concept and a wide variety of art and gifts, owned and operated entirely by its members.

Not only do they have wonderful art, but I walked in carrying a woven sisal bag that had a hole in it. The lovely woman working that afternoon insisted (in the kindest way) on fixing it for me. So nice. My friend and I look forward to visiting again.

The Brentwood Country Mart is a lively collection of small shops and very good restaurants, including Farmshop, Barney's Gourmet Hamburgers, Reddi Chick and others. It is a fun destination to explore and to head for very good food and provisions. Check their website for a directory of all the shops and dining options.
