Glastonbury High School Reviews
Rating 4.04 out of 5 503 reviews
I have worked at this school for over 10 years and let me just say, it is a beautiful environment for adults and kids alike. So many beautiful kids go to this school. They wear such colorful clothes, it is such a good environment. I have never had a bad day at work in my over 10 years of working at this school. It is heaven on Earth and you better believe me when you hear that STAT! This school has a lot of spirit and lots of events for kids to have fun. Go to this school, you won't regret it. The food is cooked by the most brilliant lunch ladies in Glastonbury.
My experiences in Glastonbury High School are unique as an African-American female who previously attended an underfunded elementary school. When I moved to Glastonbury public schools in 2018, I was surprised to see the different culture and attitudes. For instance, the school environment is competitive because there are divisions between the levels of classes (level 1 or level 2) that one takes. These levels reflect one's intelligence and the lower level classes have negative connotations. The worst parts about this levels system is that once a student is recommended for a level 2 class (lower level class) it restricts that student to level 2 classes throughout the rest of their classes up to high school. I would like for there to be more attainable opportunities for students to move up to advanced classes. The best part are the various helpful resources that help students get help on their essays or math subjects. For example, the Reading and Writing center and the Math Center.
I would like to see the administration put in more work into caring about kids and hardships they may face in the classroom. My best experience was my English teacher this past year, Mr. Dursin. He made learning fun and exciting and caused me to look forward to class everyday. My worst experience has been my math teacher. She has constantly made my learning challenging and refuses to change to help me. I have reached for outside help and I feel like I have been failed.
