About All Quiet on the Western Front:

Spring 1917. 17-year-old Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer) and friends can’t wait to join the war, to march on Paris and declare victory. That's how the boys imagine it. That's how it is promised to them. In high spirits they march to the front, the ‘Iron Youth’ – for their Kaiser, God, and fatherland. Their enthusiasm doesn’t last long. When they reach the Western Front after days of marching, it is pouring with rain. The trenches flooded and became a swamp. But the French waste no time. Soon they start firing at the trench.

All Quiet on the Western Front tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front during the First World War. Paul (Felix Kammerer) and his comrades quickly feel the initial euphoria of war fade into horror, pain and fear as they fight desperately for their lives in the trenches.

Director Edward Berger (Patrick Melrose, Jack, Deutschland 83) was able to attract an impressive ensemble for his film. Newcomer Felix Kammerer is captivating in the lead role as Paul Bäumer. All Quiet on the Western Front marks his debut role in a feature film. Albrecht Schuch (Dear Thomas, System Crasher) takes on the role of Stanislaus Katczinsky, who becomes a close friend and confidant of Paul’s during the war. Fighting alongside them are Edin Hasanovic (Je suis Karl, Skylines) as Tjaden Stackfleet, Aaron Hilmer (The Most Beautiful Girl in the World) as Albert Kropp, Moritz Klaus (Little Murders) as Franz Müller and Adrian Grünewald (Sløborn) as Ludwig Behm. Daniel Brühl (The Alienist, Next Door) is Matthias Erzberger, a diplomat trying to negotiate a ceasefire. Devid Striesow (I’m Off Then) plays General Friedrichs. Also appearing are Thibault De Montalembert (The Collapse), Anton von Lucke (Great Freedom) and Andreas Döhler (The Seed).

The screenplay was written by Edward Berger, Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson. The film was produced on behalf of Netflix by Malte Grunert (Land of Mine, A Most Wanted Man) together with his firm, Amusement Park Film, Daniel Dreifuss (Sergio, Guernica) and Edward Berger. James Friend was behind the camera, having already worked with Edward Berger for Patrick Melrose and Your Honor. Christian M. Goldbeck (Me and Kaminski) was in charge of set design and Lisy Christl (John Rabe, Anonymous, A Hidden Life) designed the costumes. The music was created by Volker Bertelmann (Lion).
