This year had lots of changes for everyone at my school. I think that caused my last experiences at this school to be harder than it should have been. The administration had some major changes and they are trying to fix the school to their liking. Some teachers are very dedicated to their jobs and make the lessons fun and inviting. As a swimmer, I would have liked to see a pool being prioritized. Recently, my school opened the opportunity for a paid internship through the school for the medical magnet students. I have spent the last two years learning under a medical professional and having the best time and improving my social skills.
It is a good school but you definitely need to self advocate. The administration doesn’t tell you much its all online and non collaborative, the school should be involved and engaging for students. They lack understanding and respect but expect students to gain these skills. The school from my experience does have good academic programs and opportunities just they don’t encourage students to use them to full potential and for real life experiences.
My overall experience at John F. Kennedy High School was pretty good. At this school there are multiple magnets, and I was able to experience 2 of them. My freshman year I was in the Medical Magnet, but in my sophomore thru senior year I was in the Global Leadership and Environmental Action Magnet (GLEAM), which opened my sophomore year. During my time in both magnets, GLEAM was defiantly a better fit for me. In this magnet we started a school garden, brought new AP classes to the campus, and the teachers make sure to check in with the students and cater to their needs. I would like to see the entire campus have the same morals and teaching philosophy as GLEAM so that all students at John F. Kennedy High School can experience the amazing impact GLEAM has.
