Wow! This book brought me to tears multiple times. I strongly feel that if Jerry Schilling and Elvis’ other childhood friends had still been around, he wouldn’t have passed away that night. A must-read for any Elvis fan or anyone, really. If there were more than 5 stars available, this book would definitely earn them. Thank you, Jerry Schilling, for the dedication and love you showed towards Elvis.

Jerry Shilling eloquently captures his bond with Elvis in this book. Instead of focusing on Elvis directly, the story delves into Jerry’s personal friendship with the iconic singer. I found myself immersed in the narrative, completing the book within just 2 days. It was refreshing to read a perspective that steered clear of the usual portrayal of Elvis’ actions, whether positive or negative, found in other works.

Schilling’s book, titled “My Lifelong Friendship,” truly lives up to its name. It is a sensitively written piece that delves into his close relationship with Elvis Presley, touching on various aspects of their lives together. From their humble beginnings at a local football contest in Memphis to later encounters at the Oval Office, Schilling provides a personal and insightful commentary on their journey. The book not only offers a deep look into the life of Elvis Presley but also provides a historical perspective on the music and movie industries of the ’60s and ’70s. It highlights the shift from creativity to formulaic approaches in these industries and sheds light on the challenges faced by Presley, such as dealing with stale scripts and management decisions. Overall, Schilling’s work stands as a quality addition to the collection of books on Elvis Presley, offering a unique and respectful perspective on their enduring friendship.

This biography of Elvis Presley not only stands out as one of the best, but it’s also incredibly entertaining to read. The book captures the essence of Elvis’s unpredictable life, filled with surprising encounters and adventures. Author Jerry Schilling provides fresh insights and lesser-known stories about the King, shedding light on his personality and emphasizing his talent, generosity, and quest for meaning. Schilling’s deep friendship with Elvis is a central theme, offering a unique perspective on the legendary singer. While acknowledging Elvis’s flaws, Schilling paints a balanced picture of a man who strived to be kind despite his challenges. The book offers vivid character portraits, including intriguing anecdotes about Elvis’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Although the focus is mainly on Elvis’s personal life, Schilling’s passion for Elvis’s music shines through. Despite a slow start, the book picks up pace with the teenage meeting between Schilling and Elvis, making it a compelling read. While some topics like Elvis’s political and social beliefs are lightly touched upon, ME AND A GUY NAMED ELVIS remains a valuable addition to Elvis biographies for its engaging narrative and personal touch.

I have read numerous books on Elvis, but Schilling’s book stands out as something special. Being a part of Elvis’ inner circle, Schilling provides a unique perspective on the rock icon’s life. From driving Elvis and Priscilla to the hospital for the birth of Lisa Marie to being present during key moments in Elvis’ career, Schilling offers insights that shed light on Elvis’ decisions and relationships. Moreover, the book delves into Schilling’s own experiences and challenges, painting a vivid picture of a man navigating fame and friendship. The detailed accounts of his time with Elvis, including private conversations, make this book a compelling read. Despite some reviewers focusing solely on Elvis, it’s important to recognize that this is also an autobiography of a man who shared a significant part of his life with a legend. I found myself engrossed in the audiobook, eagerly waiting to uncover more about Schilling’s journey and his interactions with Elvis. In conclusion, I confidently state that this is the ultimate book on Elvis that captures not only his story but also the intertwined lives of those around him.

After carefully reading reviews, I decided to go ahead and order this book. Schilling’s decision to finally write about his experiences with Elvis after almost three decades was a wise one. The book beautifully captures the essence of their friendship, highlighting the true meaning of loyalty and respect. Schilling’s storytelling makes you feel like you are right there with him, listening to his tales. However, I wish he delved deeper into some of the conversations he had with Elvis, as certain episodes felt like they had more to reveal. Overall, this book is a well-written tribute to their friendship and Elvis’ legacy.
