Rode from Stroebel Road (north terminus) to St. Charles. Trail was moderately busy on a Sunday afternoon. Trail conditions were excellent. Trail is smooth and flat and is excellent shape. Ate a sack lunch in a gazebo overlooking the river in St. Charles. Saw Sandhill Cranes flying nearby on several occasions. Noise from the nearby road was not bad at all.
Starting at the Stroebel Rd parking lot to St Charles is 20 miles round trip. Definitely one of the prettier rail trails I've ridden. It can be busy at times so if you're riding, be prepared to slow down & let others know you're coming. Everyone is usually pretty easy-going & will move over.
Love this trail!! Such a smooth and beautiful ride! I bike it, but it would be a GORGEOUS walk. Bridges, blacktop pavement, rivers, wildlife and shrubbery, lots of shade and some open sun!...this trail rocks. It connects to the Shields Township Trail. If you get bored of the straight Rail Trail take the 3 miles of curvy Shields Township Trail to mix it up.
