Hi, I just logged in to this site for the first time and came across a story in which my late husband, Lt. Cecil George Bartie (he was a dr in ondangwa and was killed in an accident when the plane landed at oshakati) was mentioned. It is so amazing that there are still people who remember him. He kept a diary whilst on operation sceptic in 1980 but that was unfortunately lost. If anyone knows him or was at the border at that time, and can remember, I was one of the two wives that visited our husbands (the other was the wife of Emil Aboud), please contact me, I would love to hear first hand what happened on the day of the accident. One hears so many versions but I never saw an official report of the accident and would like to get hold of it.
Thanks, Delene

As a spouse you are entitled to apply for all documentation concerning your husband. Which should include the report on the accident. I will see if I still have the details of where one needs to apply - they have been posted on this site before.

The SA War Graves Project says:
Quote:
Killed in action, at Oshakati during Operation Protea, crashed whilst bringing in casualties at night. It is said that Lamprecht was disorientated and guided the pilot incorrectly, thus the tail rotor caught in a barb-wire fence. Sgt Lamprecht, the co-pilot, Lt D O'Connor, several medics and a doctor as well as the casualties tragically died. Only the pilot survived, in Aerospatiale SA3330 Puma C
