Logan Couture Gives Season-Ending Injury Update; Hopes To Be Ready For Sharks Training Camp - The Hockey News San Jose Sharks News, Analysis and More Skip to main content

Logan Couture spoke to the media today during locker room clean-out day and gave an update on his lower-body injury that derailed his season.

"Take a little bit of time off for now, and then start to train and skate," Couture said. "[I'm] looking to skate in July and see how I feel."

The captain was limited to just six games this season due to a deep groin issue called osteitis pubis.

Couture said that he's been talking to other players around the league about this injury, referencing Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy.

"A few guys are going through it right now around the league. Some guys are doing a little bit better. Some guys aren't as severe as mine was, and they're a little bit younger," Couture said. "Another guy who's a little bit older than me was able to get through it, and he told me it's the hardest thing you're going to do is get over this injury. He had an injury where he broke his fibula, and he said, I'd take that 100 times over osteitis pubis. So it's tough, but it can be done."

He emphasized that even though he played his six games, the injury worsened over time. His goal is to be ready for the Sharks training camp, but he wants to ensure his life away from him is without pain.

Couture didn't want to discuss his future with San Jose as he wanted to get back on the ice first. After Tomas Hertl was traded, Couture talked about his health and contractual status, which prevented him from even thinking about moving to a team for a chance at the Stanley Cup.

Couture's season was derailed by injury, but the Sharks and the captain are hopeful he will return to the ice for training camp.
