Stoner rock, which combines elements of heavy metal, psychedelic rock, blues rock and doom metal, is one of the more deliberate genres of rock. With it's brooding, slow-to-middling tempos, stoner rock bands emerged in the 1990s, and can often times be confused with desert rock. However, the best stoner rock bands have a trippier groove in their sound, which is what separates stoner rock bands from other genres.

So, who are considered the best stoner rock bands of all time? Any list featuring stoner rock musicians has to begin with Kyuss. Influenced by trailblazing '60s and '70s bands Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and MC5, the Palm Desert-based rocking Kyuss was one of the pioneers of the genre. In fact, when Kyuss broke up, many stoner rock groups were formed, such as Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu and Celestial Season. Thus, if not for Kyuss, there would be no stoner rock, at least that's how we know it.

That said, it's up to you to determine who the top stoner rock bands are. This list answers the questions "who are the best stoner rock bands of all time?" and "who is the greatest stoner rock musician ever?" If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music (albums and songs) instead of just voting for the most popular stoner rock bands that you might've heard of.
