Goodbye Neutrogena, they cancelled the men's line

Doesn't look like this sub is active, but not sure where else to ask this. Been using Neutrogena skin products for a very long time, and it was the one product that helped major acne when I was a kid. I still have sensitive skin, so have been using the regular face wash and shave cream. Sadly they just discontinued both. Any suggestions for sensitive skin???

Oof, just learned this yesterday. I'm devastated. I've been using the Men's lotion with SPF 20 for like 15 years now.

u/garbonzo avatar

I'm late to the party here. I've been using the face lotion for a long time as well. Did you find a decent replacement? I tried Cetaphil, and it's just ok.

u/OhioBricker avatar

Trying Cetaphil (with spf 15). It will probably have to do, but I agree: it's only OK. I do like that it comes in a bigger container, though.

Also considering Harry's (spf 15). Don't know much about it, or the brand, but it's available at Target.

u/garbonzo avatar

Thanks!

Are you still using the Cetaphil or have you switched to something else?

I tried the Neutrogena clear face 30 but it's just regular sun screen

u/OhioBricker avatar

I'm still on my first bottle of Cetaphil. (I still have a several tubes of Neutrogena Men's Lotion left.) So I'm still just trying it out at this point. It's OK. Haven't found a better option yet. I have a feeling it just feels and smells different, so that's why I'm not completely convinced yet.

CeraVe AM is similar.

I recently tried the Cetaphil SPF 35 for combination/sensitive skin and I like it more than the SPF 15 one. It's a little more expensive, but feels more like the old Neutrogena Daily Lotion SPF 20 to me.

Same. I just started shaving again after having a beard for several years and I had some of this stashed away. Went to get more and found out it was GONE. Damn them all to hell!

u/maddyhasglasses avatar

I know this is an old post, but I just want to say for the record that Neutrogena Razor Defense was the best shaving cream I ever used. Farewell Sweet Prince. You were too good for this world. 😞

u/ztigerx2 avatar

Any word on a good replacement for the razor defense post shave face wash?

u/ztigerx2 avatar

At least it’s in the family. I can’t wrap my head around spending $75 for three of the Amazon post shave face wash but damn that stuff is the best

What was the exact product you were using? I have found some decent replacements.

The men's blue face wash, and sensitive shave cream

The blue face wash is supposedly not discontinued based on my research. I still have some. The orange one they made has a Non-Mens version in a pump bottle that is the same.

For shaving cream, I have switched to Art of Shaving Lavender line, which is better so far. They sell a pre-shave oil and shaving cream.

https://theartofshaving.com/shaving-products/shaving-cream/shaving-cream-lavender-essential-oil/PG_00670535300021.html

Appreciate the response! I tried the orange one years ago, and it made my skin very oily feeling (which is odd). Been using the Gillette Pure Soothing Shaving Cream so far, not bad.

Any replacement for the shave cream?

I am using Art of Shaving cream now. Available on their web site.

That's some pricey stuff though

It is, but it lasts and is great quality.

Can't find the Men's invigorating face wash (blue) anywhere! Not even on their website.

Because it's been discontinued, they cut the whole men's line.

u/AwkwardUse4157 avatar

Have you found a good replacement for this yet?

Not one I'm fully happy with. Currenly trying the Neutragena face wash cream. It works fine, time will tell

Did you ever find a good replacement for the blue face wash? Im gonna go broke dropping $80 a bottle for the discontinued stuff

I’ve had great luck using keihls face wash. It’s the closest I’ve found to this.

Why would they do that?

No idea, probably didn't sell well enough

Definitely upset about this the blue face wash was the only thing that cleared up my acne. I checked their site didnt see any mens or women's specific products. But most have models of men and women. Looks like they are pandering to non binary, trans ect.

Maybe. But chatted with rep, was told a destinct mens line was gone.

Have you found a line to replace this? My husband has used the Triple protect face lotion forever.

Nope. Have tried a few things, but nothing has come close.

I've been using Neutrogena Men's Razor Defense Shave Gel for probably close to 15 years... which is a good portion of the time I've actually been shaving. This is really sad to hear.

Has anyone found any other shave gel they like in place of this?

Something other than the "Art of Shaving" stuff mentioned earlier... $28 for 5oz of shaving cream that I have to scrape out of a jar with my fingers? Yeah, okay. I'm sure for 5+ times the price the shave is 5+ times better than the stuff I have been using problem-free for 15 years, right? sigh

I've tried a few other cremes, but now get lots of razor burn. So nothing yet, hoping someone notes a good alternative eventually.

u/ozzuneoj avatar

Just did some looking and found Aveno Therapeutic Shave Gel and I'm going to try it. Have you seen this one?

https://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Therapeutic-Sensitive-Fragrances-Non-Comedogenic/dp/B0000536EY/

It's inexpensive and it has almost all of the same ingredients as the Neutogrena Razor Defense I've always used. Probably has all the same ingredients that some will say are nasty\bad but I'd rather continue to pay about 60 cents per ounce of something that I know works for me than pay 6 dollars per ounce on something totally different.

It's funny, I just opened my last can of my old stuff a few days ago. Had I known they were now selling for $35 new on ebay I may have actually tried the Aveno sooner. :D

Edited

Not sure if these pictures will work... I had to pull these from the page source on some product pages and reviews to get a decent view of them.

EDIT: Fixed it.

Looks like both the images are the same

u/ozzuneoj avatar

Weird, I had fixed it last night. Reddit's auto formatting kept messing up that first URL when I saved the post (too many underscores and periods together). Sorry. It should be working now.

Any suggestions to replace Age Fighter SPF 15? I’ve been using it for years. How annoying. :-)

In the same boat..freaking infuriating! Tried using their Hydro Boost since it got so great reviews. You need to apply it at least three times. Gonna try Kiels this weekened and see if they have anything decent/similar.

I was in the same boat as all you guys. Used Neutrogena for years and especially loved the Triple Protect with SPF 20 the most. I just read a study saying that only slightly more than 30% of Gen-Z and Millennial aged men have a skin care routine and not only that statistically would rather go on bad dates than even deal with skin care at all. So I'm thinking that probably has a lot to do with Neutrogena killing the men's line. I'm sure it was because it wasn't profitable enough.

That's fine in a way though because I did a load of research and switched over to Oar + Alps products and frankly I'm glad Neutrogena forced me to research new products because I'm never going back to Neutrogena even if they did bring the products back because O+A is MUCH better IMO. Though admittedly pricier overall but the quality is so much nicer.

For those that care about such things Oars + Alps uses more natural product ingredients (though "natural" is always somewhat misleading, but it's more true than with most brands). It's also, cruelty free, vegan, sulfate free, among other things - again if that's important to you. But they also carry products for sensitive skin and fragrance free items of you are sensitive to that stuff and I read a couple of posts here saying they were so this might be good for you.

I'll be honest I bought a few replacement products from O+A and afterwards went ham and bought an entire facial skincare routine (including their wake-up and overnight serums which are the most expensive products they offer) and even replaced my Old Spice deodorant and shower gel with their dependent aa well as their ultra moisturizing bar soap and their peppermint charcoal exfoliating soap and oh my God......what a world of difference! I had just become used to having itchy skin after the shower and just thought I had maybe some mild eczema but now that I've switched to Oars + Alps soaps that completely stopped! The Old Spice gel was drying my skin out horribly.

So yeah I completely replaced all my products with O+A now because I've become a believer after my skin started feeling better and smoother. Except for my shampoo and conditioner at least because I'm still pretty loyal to Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree hair care products. But everything else is O+A for me now.

I know it probably sounds like I'm repping the company in some way at this point. But no I get no kickbacks from them or anything. I'm just bought into the brand enough now that I'm shilling for them for free. Lol. But also there really aren't any good men's skin care products out there. And now I've also realized how harsh those mass market name brand products like Neutrogena and Old Spice and the like actually are until I switched so I'm kind of glad all this happened. Even though I spent a lot more than I should have on their products they do last a pretty long time (aside from the bar soaps which only really last a month for a bar).

So if you are looking for a replacement to your Neutrogena products give them a look. I'm a big fan now.

I used the face scrub, look online to find them! Now the prices are ridiculous!

Looks like Neutrogena for Men is coming back, I just found the Age Figter with a New Presentation.

I can only hope. Been using the Ultra Gentle daily cleaner, but would welcome the original men's face soap back

u/tonyxcom avatar

I am pretty sure that is a fake product because you cannot find it anywhere on their official websites.
