Explaining each and every last one of Gojo's techniques... so far

Discussion

This is mostly to put down debates over what counts as a Maximum technique and stuff like that, but can also be used for your debate of Gojo VS. Meguna.

SIX EYES - a mysterious set of eyes connected to Tengen and the Star Plasma Vessel through unknown reasons. Only members of the Gojo family that use the Limitless technique have ever inherited the Six Eyes, but neither of those are provable requirements for inheriting the Six Eyes. The effects of them include perceiving the world through cursed energy as opposed to visible light (how Gojo can see through the blindfold) and removing (almost) all unnecessary cursed energy expenditure from cursed techniques, making it almost impossible for Gojo to run out of cursed energy. That said, individuals may possess greater cursed energy reserves or have the capability to output more than he can (Yuta and Ryu respectively)

NEUTRAL: INFINITY - the power to stop. More specifically, the power to project a veil which applies the infinite divisibility of a supertask to a finite speed, constantly reducing the momentum of an object as it approaches Gojo until it appears to have stopped moving. The technique automatically targets objects based on shape, size, speed, cursed energy, and composition, and can be constantly left running so long as Gojo also maintains constant reverse technique in order to heal his brain. Domain Expansion, Domain Amplification, the Inverted Spear of Heaven, and the Black Rope are all capable of either bypassing or disturbing the technique, but current Gojo can't be caught off-guard like he was in Hidden Inventory because the technique never shuts down (unless he voluntarily disables it) and can stop objects without reliance on cursed energy.

LAPSE: BLUE - the power to attract in localized rifts of cursed energy. The technique can also be used by Gojo on himself in order to suddenly gain massive amounts of momentum, akin to teleporting at a short range. More cursed energy output = stronger and larger field of attraction. Cursed Technique Lapse - Maximum Cursed Energy Output: "Azure Glow" is NOT a Maximum technique. The raw differs between each: "Gokunoban" - Maximum VS. "Shutsuryoku Saidai" - Maximum cursed energy output. A Maximum technique is distinct from extension techniques in that it is considered the greatest height of the innate technique as a whole, something we likely have yet to see from Gojo. Also, Azure Glow is not actually different from Blue. Those that remember it as Azure Glow simply read the unofficial Jamini's Box translations during the Hidden Inventory arc.

REVERSAL: RED - the power to repel. Confirmed by Kenjaku, someone who has killed at least two Six Eyes users in the past, to have twice the raw output of Blue, Red concentrates the positive energy generated by reverse cursed technique and flows it into a small void. When touched, it reacts explosively, blowing away anything other than the person that touched it. The shockwave generated by it likely contains trace positive energy, as it was shown to be easily capable of exorcising a massive curse in JJK0.

HOLLOW: PURPLE - sometimes called an "imaginary" technique in Jamini's Box, Purple combines the push of Red and the pull of Blue to create a barreling force with currently unknown properties. It was previously assumed to remove matter from reality, but this is likely not the case as indicated by the fact that Sukuna was able to somewhat stop it even at 200 percent of its maximum power. Instead, it most likely thrashes and pulverizes anything caught in its path with great intensity and cursed energy, meaning the only way to resist it would be to reinforce one's body with an immense amount of cursed energy that so far only Sukuna has been shown to have.

DOMAIN EXPANSION: UNLIMITED VOID - this domain has been given three different names over the years and any of them are correct for the time being. After enclosing the barrier, its target is brought inside the conceptual Limitless and bombarded with an endless stream of information. Because no time is allotted for their brain to respond to any of it in any order, they are rendered immobile and dazed. The amount of information transmitted is calculated in a time ratio of roughly 2.5 years per second of time spent in the domain. While it isn't exactly clear what "one year" of information equates to, it has been confirmed that human beings can survive rapid exposure to six months of information without suffering permanent damage.

REVERSE CURSED TECHNIQUE - following his awakening at the hands of Toji, Gojo can convert cursed energy (negative) into positive energy. This can be used for self-regeneration or to enable CTR: Red, but he cannot heal others in any way as confirmed by Yaga in Shibuya. Compared to other Special Grades, Yuta, Sukuna, and Kenjaku have demonstrated varying degrees of proficiency in healing others with positive energy (Kenjaku is presumed, as one can infer that he healed Geto's deceased body before inhabiting it, requiring external RCT).

BLACK FLASH - we haven't seen him do it yet, but we know that it multiplies CE output by a power of 2.5 (example - 100J of cursed energy becomes 100,000J), which would be massive at his level of output.

AIR PUNCH THINGY - Gojo has been shown punching the surface of the air in order to create a shockwave capable of destroying buildings and flinging sorcerers long distances. One might choose to infer that this is some other technique, though it is probably more CE manipulation than anything.

CHANTS - most recently (following the TCB translation); "Nine points - polarized light - crow and shomyo chant - the gap between within and without." If Gojo chooses to go the ultra-archaic way of pronouncing a technique's activation, he can boost its potency at the cost of taking longer. This could be considered a binding vow considering how unnecessary this level of detail is, but the way it is described it is more likely similar to "charging" an attack.

CURTAIN - a type of barrier that has very few applications in battle and is mainly used as a condition to trap or repel certain categories of or specific sorcerers and/or curses.

As far as I remember, that is everything, LMK if I missed something (btw Lime Green no diffs the kenjussy and sukman)

drip too hard, don’t stand to close you might fuck around and drown, off this wave

Gege’s really showing his bleach inspo with those chants last-chapter. Powering up a move by reciting its full incantation…

I wonder if Gojo’ll use Kurohitsugi next.

u/FilthySaiyanMonkey avatar

Hado 33 Shock a Hoe

Next chapter we are going to see Gojo destroying buildings left and right, shaping the landscape with each blue and red but for some reason Sukuna wouldn’t be impressed.

Gojo then will use hollow purple, expecting Sukuna to show some powerful technique but instead, Sukuna stops it with his finger.

Puzzled, Gojo takes a few steps back but then Sukuna explains that the attacks that were reshaping the land were not Gojo’s but traces of Sukuna’s CE itself.

Humiliated, Gojo lashes out, how can such a pathetic being challenge him? He then uses Kurohitsugi with full invocation.

At first it seems to be working, a very powerful CT used with full invocation by a Honored one can’t be anything less than a supreme demonstration of power… yet, the impossible, the unthinkable happens, Sukuna simply cuts through the black void like through paper.

Truly, a fraud one moment.

gojo is NOT a fraud. gojo is a lot of things, but a FRAUD IS NOT ONE OF THEM, do NOT PUT DISRESPECT ON MY GLORIOUS KING GOJO'S NAME 😡

Greg said Gojo can teleport under certain conditions

True, I forgot to mention this. As of right now, the only meaningful “condition” that needs to be met is that Gojo can’t teleport something into a space occupied by other immovable matter (why he always appears floating a high distance from the ground, probably to make sure he doesn’t become concrete)

u/skroink_z avatar

When Gege feels like it basically.

When a direct path without obstructions is prepared in advance.

He literally teleported yuji lmao and panda and inumaki. He teleported right after getting out the prison realm lol and when he fights. He teleports when HE wants

What about his HIM abilities

You forgot Sex Eyes and Lime Green

sometimes called an "imaginary" technique in Jamini's Box

TCB clarified in their notes after chapter 205 that the more accurate translation of purple's description was "virtual" mass rather than "imaginary" mass. It's the same term Yuki uses for her technique, which is distinct from the established translation of the physics term "imaginary mass."

Comment Image

I'm pretty sure most of the theory crafting about it deleting matter came from people taking the "imaginary mass" thing and running with it. Which is ultimately Viz's fault.

How does Rich Pink, Lemon Yellow, and Premium white fair against Sukuna and Kenny? (Medic black isn’t for combat)

Air punch happens because of his force field he puts up.

You explained the Domain expansion wrong

That way its explained within the story but in some volume extras gege explained it in a way that makes a lot more sense:

The victim doesnt actually get infinite Information.

Their perception speed gets reduced infinitely, making them unable to even begin processing information, hence creating the illusion that there is infinite information.

This also plays into the sure hit effect of a domain expansion: Gojos Limitless as he normally uses it, slows down people infinitely, but only when they touch him. His domain expansion ignores that and slows down their mind right away.

If this is what the cat himself said then that’s how it is. That said, it conflicts with the measurement taken after Gojo’s 0.2 second DE that people experienced 6 months of information. In order for Gege’s updated explanation to make sense, we can assume that the processing speed of the victim means they experienced the same incomplete information for what felt like 6 months, which would help disambiguate the meaning of information measured in time

Thank you for making this! It's very useful to someone like me who read through the manga a bit too fast and didn't absorb everything the first time.

The rapid fire teleportation that we see him do in his first fight with Sukuna, against Miguel, sending Panda and Inugami to the school in JJK0 and going from what is seemingly 8000m below sea level to find Kenjaku almost immediately after he got freed

u/Dystopian_25 avatar

But for panda and inumaki he used a magic circle while for himself he just vanishes. I'm guessing the magic circle was to expand his CT properties with a simple domain but Gojo drew the circle just because the cat didn't know everything about domains yet

At first I just chalked it up to Gojo needing that to teleport other people but then we also see him teleport with Yuji against Jogo

It probably just early volume Gege where he hasn't solidified yet the concepts of the series

I’m pretty sure he was able to teleport yuji like that because he grabbed him. He didn’t really teleport yuji as much as he did teleport WITH yuji.

Huh of gojo really wanted to beat sukuna with his best technique he would’ve just teleported to him used domain to turn off his brain and then hit him with a hollow purple

Huh of gojo really wanted to go all out to beat sukuna with his best technique he would’ve just teleported to him used domain to turn off his brain and then hit him with a hollow purple

@ everyone who has been like “gojo used his best tech at 200%

Does having the six eyes mean that Gojo can't see light, or that his eyes don't use light to see? I always thought that his eyes used light and cursed energy to see.

He can experience both, but leaving his Six Eyes exposed for too long causes strain on them, so they’re likely more sensitive to light than most eyes

Don't forget him flying fr

the air punch thingy is his infinite, not only can he use infinity to protect himself but use it as a weapon. Like that one panel of him lifting a building without touching it. He can manipulate space by pulling or repelling. He even said "infinity is everywhere" so that's why

No, his telekinesis is an application of Blue as shown in 231. The punch shown in chapter 2 is also likely him compressing the surrounding air with Blue and striking with it

What happens when you push and pull something at the same time? A rip. Purple is a whirling vortex of annihilation that rips apart anything it comes in contact with at the atomic level.

u/ashistpikachusvater avatar

multiplying doesn't work like that boy... Black Flash multiplies the output by 2.5 Which means 100% becomes 250%. So a punch with 100J becomes a 250J punch. Not 100000J :/

Edited

It's not multiplication, it's an exponential increase. So rather than multiplying by 2.5 it's to the power of 2.5.

Basically, 10 x 2 is 20 but 10 to the power of 2 is 10x10, so 100.

I'm actually not sure how the .5 factors in, maybe a math guy can explain.

Gege knows he messed up a bit though, because as pointed out the exponent thing kinda falls apart unless he's giving us units of measurement for cursed energy, which he isn't:

Comment Image

Edit: Just wanna explain the "he messed up" part. The whole idea of exponents in relation to black flash kinda relies on the unit of measurement being used. OP mentioned joules. So ok, if someone fires off an attack using black flash that normally involves 2 joules of energy, then the resulting attack will be boosted to using 5.6~ joules (according to google calculator >.>). But 2 joules in millijoules is 2000. And 2000 millijoules to the power of 2.5 is 178885438.2 millijoules, or 178885.4~ joules. The actual starting force itself didn't change, the unit of measurement did, but the resulting output would be tens of thousands of times stronger.

[deleted]

For the fractional part see 2.5 is equal to 5/2 so 100 to the power of 5 and then you square root that value to get power of 2.5

u/ashistpikachusvater avatar

Then you literally did write it wrong... it's not miltiplied by 2.5, it's squared 2.5...

BLACK FLASH - we haven't seen him do it yet, but we know that it multiplies CE output by a power of 2.5 (example - 100J of cursed energy becomes 100,000J), which would be massive at his level of output

I can kinda see where you got confused, but OP did mention the power of aspect of the sum, and the result they got is correct for an exponent and incorrect for a straight 2.5 multiplication.

I’ll admit that my wording could use some work, but if you’re getting into a battle of semantics then you also have to know your stuff. X “squared” means X*X. Any power with a value not equal to 2 reads X to the power of Y (in this case Y=2.5)

square only means to the power of 2, here it is 2.5

u/ashistpikachusvater avatar

Then it's to the power of 2.5, not multiplied by 2.5. So you still wrote it wrong my boy. I literally forgot Black Flash existed, so don't get me wrong 😑

well to be fair it would be millionths of a joule squared not millijoules after squaring it, though im not sure if that would be a meaningful unit

Purple is close to a black whole. It destroys everything at a cellular level

That’s not what a black hole does. A black hole is a hyper dense object with a gravitational pull so overwhelmingly powerful that it literally punches a hole in the space time framework. They don’t necessarily destroy things as much as they do warp them under their intense gravity and spatial distortion. All the matter gets crushed together in the black hole and adds to its density. Purple is just a really intense push and pull happening simultaneously. It’s closer to being shoved into a washing machine than it is a black hole. The reason purples so strong isn’t just the nature of the attack. It’s because gojo himself is ridiculously powerful.

More replies

I don’t know how hollow purple actually works because I don’t think it has been explained but I have came up with my own idea on how it works. Sense you combine blue and red, or negative and positive together, it creates zero. Sense it is said purple is an imaginary mass, it makes sense that it is zero sense imaginary things don’t exist, and zero doesn’t exist. That means that sense purple is zero, anything it touches also turns to zero meaning it doesn’t exist anymore so it gets deleted from reality. It’s almost like purple multiplies anything it touches by zero, turning that object into zero, therefore deleting it.

What names were given to Unlimited Void?

In the anime it was called Infinite Void, in the official manga it was called Unlimited Void, and in the unofficial translations of the Shibuya Incident it was called Immeasurable Void.

Wait you didn't explain nine ropes polarized light

See “CHANTS”

Also a lot of this is now outdated and/or obsolete, I might make a followup later if I feel like it or a different character summary
