Constantly need to reset wireless network adapter

I have read many posts and don't find a fix for me.  I have to reset my wireless network adapter very frequently while using my HP Envy laptop.  This issue has been happening since Win10, but possibly before and not as often.

While using the laptop online, it hangs on a page load or new tab.  After waiting a bit I realize I have to reset the adapter: I run troubleshooter which very infrequently finds the problem and resets the adapter.  Mostly troubleshooter says it can't find a problem and I go the adapter troubleshooter.  It resets the adapter and I'm fine.  For 30 minutes. Or 5 minutes. It's ridiculous and frustrating.  I have tried to update the adapter driver and I always get the message it is current.

Here is a snipit of system event viewer showing how many times I had the issue in a short period of time.  My network adapter fails coincide with the DNS Client Events.

I am at a loss.  PLEASE help me.  This occurs on my home network, on friend's networks - just anywhere. No other devices in my house, including my tablet, have this issue.  Thanks for your help!

Debbie

Hi Debbie,

You might be experiencing this issue because of a configuration error or outdated device driver. Installing the latest driver for your device is usually the best policy because it has all the latest fixes. If you’re having problems with your Wi-Fi connection and you think it’s not something in your home, make sure you have the latest driver installed for your wireless network adapter. To check for the latest drivers, kindly refer to the following link: Update drivers in Windows 10.

If a new driver isn't found, check the device manufacturer’s website for the latest driver, download it, and then install it manually. To learn how to do this, see Fix network connection issues.

Additionally, kindly check the Power Management tab in the Network Adapter properties in Device Manager if the option Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is enabled. Here are the detailed steps:

  1. Press Windows key + X key, and select Device Manager. (You may also right-click on the Start menu.)

  2. Find and double-click Network adapters.

  3. Right-click the device listed, and click on Properties.

  4. Navigate to Power Management tab, and uncheck the option Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

You might also be experiencing this issue due to a hardware problem. If the laptop is still in warranty, we recommend that you reach out to HP Customer Support or HP Discussion Boards for hardware-related support.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to post a reply.
