Currently thinking Wharfedale Lintons or Aura 2 speakers. Maybe KEF R3 Metas? Others to consider?

I can only recommend my Lintons. If possible wait … the past couple of years they’ve gone on sale at the original price of $1500/pair including stands in November. I got mine in Nov. 2022.

    love them.

The Wharfedales will sound very different from the KEF R3 Meta. The important match isn’t with the receiver, it’s with you.

I've found excellent synergy between my Yamaha amps and JBL L82's.

It depends on the kind of sound you like. I prefer speakers that are on the bright side (due to rolled-off ears + listening at low volume). I would try the B&W 705 S3 or the Yamaha NS-800A.

By the way, I see that you also have the Yamaha A4A. If you have a chance, I would like to hear what you think about its sound (in stereo mode) vs the R-N1000A. Thanks.

I quite liked the Lintons, sounded quite open, rather like what I was building as a teenager but if I had know what the hell I was doing ha ha. Another suggestion would be the Monitor Audio Silver 300 which sounded fabulous with the usual jazz and classical but amazingly could crank up Motorhead and Iron Maiden really really loud without flinching. Those are discontinued, don't know if you can still find them, but here is another enticing tidbit
Monitor Audio Silver 500 7G loudspeaker
If the price is too rich to stretch the new 300s should fit your bill. I'd prefer these over the Wharfedale based on another set of Wharf towers, which cry some if cranked up.

JBL 4312G classic 3 way 12 inch studio monitors in ghost white

the can be found for deep discount at $2k fo rthe pair brand new, no one likes the color.

be a great match for that Yamaha receiver and one of the few actual good looking matches for these speakers.

Tough color indeed, esp if you're reselling down the line. Terrific speakers for the money though.

I had the MA Silver 8s, predecessor to the 300s I think. Really nice speakers but I love my Lintons.

I gave the MAs to my daughter.

Not that they sounded bad but I wanted something different. I think the Lintons do about everything the MAs did, but they put out more musical sound.

My buddy came over last week and we cranked some Daft Punk and Peter Tosh records that he brought, they had no problems at all at 50% louder than I have ever played them. No distortion or any other artifacts that I could tell. I do have the mighty parasound a 21 which drives these very well.

hey, I forgot you had the Lintons and the monitor audio speakers. What did you think about the two of them? I never really tried a head to head test. When I got the Lintons, I just put them in front of the monitor audios and immediately loved what I was hearing, so that was that.

I would definitely consider the Monitor lines as the quality is high. While I don't think I've heard the latest models, the house sound is on the "dry" side, not lush like the Lintons, but more resolving. The Lintons are an incredible value, and I considered the Lintons for my 2nd system, but the bass was too much for my smaller room. I'm considering going with one of the Monitor bookshelves, but I'm not sure which line. They start to get expensive when you get up to the Silver and Gold.

I heard those at different times and places. The Lintons had a nice warm open sound, a fine choice. The MA maybe more neutral? I think @bgiliberti hits the nail on the head (though I'd favor 3-ways over the bookshelf models, I really believe the midrange is important for these.

The most amazing thing about those was how clear they made Motörhead's seminal No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith sound-it's not a pristine recording but I had never heard it so clearly, layers of grunge stripped away ha ha. Cone speakers generally degenerate into a hash of distortion with that.

I heard the Philharmonic BMR monitors at Axpona. Even in the compromised hotel room they sounded amazing.

$1800 for the satin walnut. Yes, please!

That's nice to know! I did not have the chance to crank the hell out of them like the Silver 300s

Hey how about some nice Tekton Design Troubadours?

There are many good pre-owned speakers available in your state that will easily outperform any speakers on your list.

If you can overlook the cosmetic issues, these can be “end game” for many as they readily compete with $10K/pair competitors:
Philharmonic BMR Towers LOCAL ONLY (Boston)

These are another I’d consider based on my experience with the brand’s Celan 3 speakers. The tweeter they employ is especially good:
    Heco DIREKT, Floorstanding Loudspeakers,

An oldie but goodie. I’ve learned it’s a mistake to overlook older designs like these. Often times they perform better than newer/“modern” speakers for far less coin. I would not be surprised if these would retail for >$5K/pair if still produced today:
Aerial Acoustics 7(A) - Elegant Simplicity

Another classic that is an excellent value. Exceptional midrange even if they retailed for 2X the MSRP. They have been refining this model for decades. It’s not great for high SPL-hard rock or EDM, but aside from its output limitations, it can easily hang with costlier speakers:
Vandersteen 1Ci in almost mint condition

Sorry to keep coming back, but I’m curious which speakers you were talking about here? Was it the Lintons or the monitor audios? Or both?

I don’t think I ever cranked my monitor audios as high as we did the Lintons the week before last. They did a really good job with Daft Punk.

I haven't heard these, but seeing SEAS is a good sign. Most of of my favorite speakers have used them, from my first "serious" speaker the Dynaco A25, to today with Harbeth and Stirling Broadcast.[/QUOTE]

I had a chance to really crank the Monitor Audio Silver 300s-not quite to concert levels but getting there. Super clean. The Lintons I did not have a chance to crank beyond "kinda loud" due to other people around.

I have the monitor audio silver 300’s with a Yamaha As1200 integrated. Very good synergy. Good at all volume levels and can handle a variety of music equally well. My only qualm is the pairing can be a little bright, depending on the recording.

Philharmonic Audio BMR monitors. Nothing at their price comes close in terms of parts quality and sound. Less than $2k.
