Elliot started his career in New York when Joe Bologna and Renee Taylor hired him to work on “Calucci’s Dept.”, a sitcom on CBS starring Jimmy Coco. He then moved to Los Angeles and was hired as a story editor on Norman Lear’s “Maude.” In 1984, he became Executive Producer and showrunner of “The Cosby Show” and won an Emmy for his work on its premiere season.

In 1988, he co-created “Annie McGuire,” an ambitious one-camera sitcom starring Mary Tyler Moore, Eileen Heckart, John Randolph and Adrien Brody. In 1993, Elliot became an Executive Producer and the showrunner of “Home Improvement.”

After “Home Improvement” finished its eight-year run, he and his son Daniel created The Inkwell Theater, which is now in its 19th year. Elliot is author of the book “Nobody’s Business,” an investigation into his father’s experiences during the Holocaust and his subsequent suicide. He’s also written five plays: Sunset Park (written with Marly Sims), Moment In The Sun, Above The Fold, AfterMath (Ovation Nominated), A Heap Of Livin’, and Paper Walls
