    Don't like it, at all.

The execution approaches a terrible horror movie with touches of racial revenge that become strange and not so satisfying when none of the characters have empathy, an atmosphere that did work with overwhelming performances but that collides in the way of telling the history.

    ★★

This movie starts off strong with the striking image of a mangey-looking dog covered in ticks casually strolling into a fashion studio. Unfortunately it fails to maintain this momentum and ends up feeling a bit like psychological horror movie 101 with all the usual tropes and nothing overly original to bring to the table.

The movie as a whole wasn’t that scary and it lost marks from me when it had the audacity to attempt a triple-fake-out “dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream” jump-scare which…

Although I had high expectations before watching this movie due to the numerous awards it received, I was a little disappointed with the final result. While the concept of mixing Philippine and foreign cultures was exciting and well-executed, the film felt a little draggy at times. Several scenes could have been removed without impacting the overall plot, and as a result, the movie felt overhyped. That being said, I did appreciate the filmmakers' willingness to experiment with new themes and ideas. Overall, while it was a decent movie, it did not quite live up to my expectations.

Straight up horror (body and psychological) than thriller, Nocebo is a really good production that's well shot, directed, acted and edited with a fitting score and immersive sound design.

I wasn't expecting the ride that it was and enjoyed every minute of it. The writing came off heavy handed in one scene, but otherwise it was super.

Would recommend going in not looking up anything and I look forward to rewatching!

    ★★★

A critique of capitalist exploitation of cheap labor in third-world countries and precarious labor conditions in the fashion industry, Nocebo falls short in delivering its message in an interesting way and turns out to be a mild attempt at a suspense movie. Eva Green is always magnetic and delivers superb acting, as does Chai Fonacier. Mark Strong and Billie Gadsdon also deliver correct performances. However, the screenplay is a bit too mediocre and spoils the good theme and cast.
