APD Detective Tim Roberts is a homicide investigator for the Albuquerque Police Department and a colleague of Hank Schrader.

History[]

Better Call Saul[]

Season 5[]

In 2004, Tim is the lead detective investigating the murder of Fred Whalen. After confirming with a witness that she had seen Lalo Salamanca's car, Mike Ehrmantraut has her call Tim with the information, but asks her not to mention his involvement in the case.

Mike later arranges for Tim, who is on the phone with someone concerned that there's a dead body under their porch, to receive an incident report concerning a hit-and-run accident on the same day as the TravelWire murder involving a car matching the description that Lily had just called in. Roberts calls over his partner and the two discusses the seeming connection between the two crimes, particularly since the accident was half an hour before the murder and only twenty blocks west. Tim states that the man who owns this car is probably the suspect that APD is looking for, which leads them to Lalo who is arrested after Mike tips off the police to his location. ("Wexler v. Goodman")

Tim later goes over the case with ADA Gina Khalil, but both are stumped by the significant ties to the local community that Lalo, going by the alias Jorge De Guzman, supposedly has. Saul Goodman bursts in and confronts the two about the private investigator who has been coaching their key witness. Khalil is shocked by the accusation and, after Saul leaves, asks Tim if he knows what Saul is going on about. Stumped himself, Tim calls Lily for answers as to Saul's accusations.

Tim is later present in the courtroom when Khalil is forced to admit before the judge that a private investigator had caused their key witness in the case to change her statement two months after her initial interview. Using this and Lalo's supposed family in the courtroom, Saul successfully argues for a seven million dollar cash bond for his client. After the bail is granted, Tim briefly speaks with Fred's family before leaving. ("JMM")

Season 6[]

Tim and ADA Gina Khalil confront Jimmy McGill and demand the location of "Jorge DeGuzman" who has skipped bail. ("Wine and Roses")

Breaking Bad[]

Season 2[]

In 2008, Tim is introduced when he helps investigate Walter White's disappearance, apparently as a favor on his day off for Hank Schrader. He questions Skyler White briefly and asks about a phone call she mentioned, however Hank reveals that there was no record of a phone call indicating that Walt was using a second cell phone. ("Grilled")

Season 4[]

In 2009, after Marie is arrested for stealing at an open house, Tim tells her that he has good news and reveals that the homeowners will not press charges. Marie, upset at the resurfacing of her kleptomania, breaks into tears. ("Open House")

Tim discusses with Hank the murder of Gale Boetticher. Hank jokes with Tim about the oddball personality that Gale's notebook evokes: "it's like Scarface had sex with Mr. Rogers." He then identifies Badger and Jesse Pinkman as the only people directly tied to the blue meth that he knows of. Hank admits to having "a history" with Jesse, referring to the savage beat-down he delivered to the young man, but doubts that Jesse murdered Gale. Finding Gale dead, the man he now believes is his Heisenberg, "feels like closure," so he no longer wants to contribute to the investigation. "I feel like I'm done," he apologizes. ("Shotgun")

Tim visits Hank at home to see if he could be of any help in the murder of Gale. Eventually Hank links Gale to Los Pollos Hermanos and to Gustavo Fring, so Tim, Hank, Steven Gomez, and ASAC George Merkert, interview Gus together. Everyone at the DEA except Hank seems to come away from the meeting satisfied that Gus is innocent. Tim is on the fence and will follow up the investigation. ("Hermanos")
