Full job description
Job Summary:
The Visitor Services Associate is responsible for welcoming visitors and informing them about the Museum’s exhibitions and programming; perform daily sales for the MOCAD store and membership; perform some reception and administrative tasks; gallery attending; and other visitor services duties as assigned. The goal of this role is to help ensure all visitors have a positive and enjoyable experience visiting the Museum.
Responsibilities:
Visitor Services
· Greet Museum guests and inform them about Museum programming, exhibitions, admission, membership, and pandemic guidelines.
· Proactively stay up to date on what’s going on at MOCAD so they can provide visitors with general
· Museum information and draw attention to upcoming exhibitions, programs, and events.
· Orient visitors to the Museum as needed (restrooms, front desk, café, etc.).
· Respond to visitor inquiries regarding MOCAD’s mission and general museum information in person and by phone.
· Open and close the Museum and Store during regular hours, and by request for programs and special events. Includes turning on/off all exhibitions, building lights, routine tidying/cleanup of the front desk and supply area. May require assisting colleagues with Café reset on occasion.
· Route thorough verbal/phone messages to staff members.
· Gather detailed attendance data each day, and provide the daily attendance report email to all staff.
· Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the front desk area to transmit a professional, polished appearance to our visitors.
· Maintain additional sanitizing protocol as outlined in the Museum COVID-19 pandemic response plan, to assist in providing a safe environment for visitors and employees. Work with the team to monitor galleries in accordance with pandemic response protocols.
· Actively offer MOCAD Membership to all visitors, while checking in with admissions, purchasing at the store, or upon leaving the museum.
· Perform other administrative tasks or project-based work as needed, including reprinting and replacing MOCAD promotional/informational materials as needed and entering email newsletter sign-ups into Mailchimp.
· May occasionally assist with group tours.
Galleries Attending/Exhibitions
· As needed, be stationed as a gallery attendant in a specific gallery. Needs vary from exhibition to exhibition and will rotate between Visitor Services Associate.
· Use a friendly and encouraging approach to enforcing all safety guidelines, ensuring the safety of the art and visitors, and adherence to pandemic safety measures.
· Maintain a friendly presence while monitoring the galleries.
· Communicates “museum etiquette” and Museum rules to visitors on entrance.
· Serve as a guide and resource for visitors regarding exhibitions, providing information on exhibited works and featured artists.
· Provide instruction to visitors in the case of emergencies.
· Routinely inspect gallery spaces and grounds as part of exhibition and building maintenance, and communicate issues to appropriate staff members.
Store
· Process in-person sales in the MOCAD Store including financial procedures at opening and end-of-day closing.
· Maintain the cleanliness and order of the store merchandise including dusting and organizing.
· Provide customer service by gaining product knowledge and assisting visitors with product selection.
· Occasionally gift wrap products which are purchased.
· Assist with merchandising the Store and maintaining design as needed (strong visual abilities a plus).
· Assist in quarterly/annual physical inventory counts.
· Provide store sales and financial analysis to key staff.
· Work with key staff and board members to determine merchandising.
· Help maintain proper functionality of the POS system.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- 1-2 year of relevant online or retail sales, including customer service and basic knowledge of accounting procedures and cash handling.
· Attention to detail; extremely punctual and reliable.
· Able to maintain a calm demeanor during high traffic times.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, sit, push, pull, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Must have weekend availability.
· Can lift up to 25lbs.

· Ability to work in a collaborative environment, with strong interpersonal communication skills to interface with various departments, management levels, and the public.
· Interest in contemporary art is a plus;
· Working knowledge of Apple OSX, MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Suite, and calendar applications. Familiarity with Mailchimp, Shopify Point of Sale, or Donor Perfect a plus.
· Reliable transportation.
