Norfolk Island is an island state in the South Pacific, about halfway between New Zealand and New Caledonia. The dwarf state has a total area of only 35 km² (13 mi²) and a total coastline of 32 km (19.9 mi). This land area is about 1.0 times the size of Manhattan. Norfolk Island is thus one of the smallest countries in Oceania by area and ranked 235th worldwide.The island group consists of 17 islands. Norfolk Island has no direct neighbors. The distance between New York City and the Capital Kingston is about 14,360 km (8,923 mi).
