Currently, the Host Town Program is taking place all over the country: More than 200 cities and municipal projects welcome the delegations from all over the world. It is the largest municipal inclusion project in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany.
From 12 to 15 June, the 190 delegations that have travelled to the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 will be accommodated in so-called Host Towns throughout Germany. The goal: space for encounters – not only in Berlin, but throughout the country and beyond the Games.
All 16 federal states are represented and the list of all Host Towns with their respective delegations is available here.
The Host Towns organize the four-day stay according to their own ideas and local conditions: A welcome party on the town hall square, joint sports activities, excursions to places of interest and much more.
The SO Chinese-Taipei delegation, for example, is hosted by the Berlin district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. They were allowed to visit the Olympiastadion and thus got a taste of the big Opening Ceremony that will take place there on 17 June.
District Councillor for Schools, Sport, Education and Culture Heike Schmitt-Schmelz said: "I am very proud to be part of this as Host Town and look forward to getting to know the delegation better."
The athletes of SO Chinese-Taipei are also excited to meet many people: "We are looking forward to making new friends during the World Games."
On 13 June, the so-called Inclusion Day was a special event for many Host Towns: They were able to organize their own Torch Run.
