Guilt Show is the fourth album released by Kansas-based, emo band The Get Up Kids on March 3, 2004. It is notable for being the last, session release prior to the band going on hiatus in the spring of 2005.
Working with Ed Rose, of Black Lodge Recording, the writing was largely relegated to Rob Pope, Matt Pryor, and Ryan Pope due to James Dewees dealing with a divorce at the time and Jim Suptic going away on his honeymoon. This gave the release a darker tone, building on their previous outing: On A Wire.
In an interview with Sound Convictions, Matt Pryor touched on some of the writing involved:
[We were] coming off the backlash that On A Wire caused and really wanted to make a “rock” record. We did maybe self censor on some of the stranger ideas we had. Like, the intro to “Holy Roman” is now the outro to “Wouldn’t Believe It” and the whole end of the record is all the really dark stuff.
