From Laurel School
For over 125 years, Laurel School, home to the Center for Research on Girls, has been educating girls (K-12) to be independent and creative thinkers who care about the world around them. Whether she is passionate about academics, the arts or athletics, Laurel helps each girl discover her own voice.
Led by Head of School Ann V. Klotz, the work of this nationally recognized school is true to its mission: to inspire each girl to fulfill her promise and to better the world. Laurel School also offers a coeducational Early Childhood program for girls and boys ages 18 months - 5 years old.

Our daughter is finishing her first year at Laurel and her first year of middle school. I was concerned with how she would adjust to middle school and make friends. Laurel is intentional about transitions and is a nurturing environment. We were matched with a host family which helped ease the transition. The girls in her class were friendly from the first day and my daughter found her close knit friend group.
Our daughter has embraced the academic environment. The teachers are amazing, the curriculum is challenging, and my daughter is excited about learning again. We have seen our daughter become confident in asking questions on assignments.
Our daughter is involved in music and theater in/out of school. She performed with the band and had the opportunity to act in the school musical. The sense of community in the performing arts group is strong!
It is a blessing to see my daughter thriving in middle school. If I could make one change, I'd have her start Laurel sooner!

In Laurel, our daughter found a perfect fit for her academic career! She attended Kindergarten through Grade 12. Laurel nurtured, supported and launched her into the amazing career that she has today as a civil engineer. She was thoroughly prepared for her college experience. She found her voice and was comfortable speaking up in the college classroom and beyond. Laurel taught her to think critically and hone her executive functioning skills. The diverse community at Laurel was a wonderful introduction to the world! We as a family learned so much about other cultures through her friend group. We are thrilled that she had the opportunity to attend Laurel and we could not be happier with outcome!
I like the Laurel atmosphere, the community, and the resources. I feel there are areas to improve, such as the sports. I enrolled at Laurel for the rigorous academics, the relationships, and the all-girls. So far, they've all met my expectations and surpassed them! I've played three sports this year and none of the coaches were great, which was disappointing. It is also cliquey and some girls are quite unkind. I think the most disappointing thing is that Ms. Klotz is leaving. She is an integral part of this school and makes the place run. (Similarly to Ms. Petriella, who also left.) The rest of the remaining faculty are friendly but are not incredibly skilled at building a community like Ms. Klotz. I will not be leaving Laurel anytime soon, but there are ways that my education could be improved.
