12 Great Horse Movies On Netflix
- Anna Lena Klenke, Dieter Hallervorden, Emilio Sakraya
This German drama is not for the faint of heart, so to speak. It follows the journey of a 17 year-old girl named Jana (Lena Klenke) who suffers from a congenital heart condition. Even though her health problems cause obstacles, Jana is recruited by race horse trainer Paul Brenner (Dieter Hallervorden) to be his apprentice. Jana learns not to live by the confines of her illness, using horse-back riding as an outlet. As she trains for a life-threatening race, her courage is put to the ultimate test. Unless you speak German, you'll need subtitles for this one.
- Spencer Locke, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Kathleen Rose Perkins
Based on a true story, this Netflix original movie relives the inspirational story of Amberley Snyder, a nationally ranked rodeo barrel racer. Snyder, played by Spencer Locke, survives a near-fatal car crash, becoming paralyzed from the waist down. But nothing can take away the passion she has for horse-back riding. Against all odds, Snyder works her way back to walking, and eventually riding again. The most amazing part? She did it in just 18 months, after doctors predicted she would never walk again. They say when you fall, you've got to get right back on the horse again. Snyder is a living, breathing example of that.
- Mandy Grace, Devan Key, Donna Rusch
A Champion Heart tells the story of Mandy Renner, a 15 year-old girl who is grieving over the loss of her mother. Starting over in a new town, Mandy struggles to make friends. A group of popular girls betray her trust, leaving her in a heap of trouble. The punishment? Mandy must serve time at an equine sanctuary, where she meets a wounded horse who needs her care. As she cares for the horse, she regains her faith and hope in the world. Soon, Mandy's confidence is restored, with her new four-legged friend by her side.

Riding Faith
Also known by its alternate title Hope Ranch, this movie definitely brings it in the "inspirational" department. Grace Van Dien stars as Grace, a girl who grapples with the passing of her father. Not to mention, her family's ranch is in foreclosure, which places pressure on Grace's mom Rebecca (Marisa Brown). Rebecca struggles with Grace's rebellious outbursts, but the two reconnect over the subject closest to them: horses. Grace leans into her relationship with her horse to help her through the dark times, and comes out a stronger person because of it.
- Harry Carey
If you prefer your romances to be of the Hallmark variety, Roped will definitely be up your alley. It's a classic tale of worlds colliding. In this case, a rip-roaring traveling rodeo has landed within the city limits of a small town. Josh Swickard plays a plucky star cowboy named Colton, who butts heads with the town's councilman Robert Peterson. However, things get much more complicated when Robert's daughter Tracy (Loryn York) falls in love with Colton. After all, all's fair in love and rodeo. Right?
- Caleb Castille, Rose Reid, Kevin Sizemore
If you're looking for a sentimental romance that also involves horses, you're in luck. The World We Make is a touching story of a young biracial couple Lee and Jordan, played by Rose Reid and Caleb Castille. This shouldn't be a problem for their blossoming romance, but the surrounding townspeople feel otherwise. Jordan has his future planned out — he's headed to a California college on a football scholarship. Lee, on the other hand, works at an equestrian center. She doesn't quite know what she wants to do yet, but she loves horses. The biggest thing Lee and Jordan have in common? Their dreams for a more hopeful future.

Bibi & Tina - Der Film
Detlev Buck, Charly Hubner, Ruby O. FeeThis quirky German teen movie is perfect for when you're in the mood for something eccentric. There's witchcraft, love triangles, and of course, horses. It stars Lina Larissa Strahl as Lisa-Marie Koroll as Bibi and Tina, two best friends who know how to face their problems head on. When a posh girl flirts with Tina's boyfriend, they hatch a plan to resolve it. There's also a mysterious, greedy man who has his eyes set on a prized foal, but he's no match for this dynamic duo. This feel-good movie is best enjoyed with subtitles, unless you're fluent in German.
- Alison Brie, Debby Ryan, John Reynolds
Alison Brie stars in this chilling psychological thriller that incorporates horses in an intriguing way. For Brie's Sarah, having a relationship with her horse means reconnecting with her younger, more innocent self. That's why she visits her former childhood horse, which is boarded in a stable close to where she lives. But her coping mechanism can't last forever, as Sarah's mind unravels to the point where she can't tell her dreams from reality. This definitely isn't a feel-good horse pic, but the inclusion of Sarah's horse is a key part to understanding her character.
