Anyone familiarized with AXA Schengen Travel Insurance?

I am going to Europe next week and I learned about AXA Insurance.

Is it reliable to buy it online?

Is travel insurance a decisive factor for immigration agents to let me in into the European Union?

Thank You, -i am going alone and I am nervous, I am entering through Frankfurt, Germany.

It would be useful for people to state in which country they have grief with AXA. They clearly do not operate the same way in all countries.

We were reasonably happy with them in Thailand. We had to visit their office to fill in and sign the forms. We phoned them to get them to approve in advance the medical provider that we used. They accepted scans of the receipts but a visit to their office was needed to collect the money. It could have been smoother but we got our money back.

I've had the same bad experience as others have mentioned on this thread.

I was in a hurry to buy an insurance because the consulate didn't accept the one that I had. Searched google and Axa-schengen came up so I bought it. But there turned out to be a mistake in the policy.

When I tried correcting it, I didn't get a response from them for almost a week. So I decided to cancel the policy because I don't trust this company to help me in case I actually need it. And now they refuse to cancel the policy.

Their customer support is non-existent. Do not trust them with your travel insurance at all.

There are better companies out there (I've used Allianz and World Nomads before and their customer support is much better)

PS: I'm in the USA

@Radhika … what was the mistake in the AXA policy?

If you bought an insurance policy in a hurry, without reading the T & C's in order to satisfy visa requirements, this doesn't automatically mean the AXA policy in itself was inadequate in some way. If you made a mistake & then decided to cancel your policy a week later, you may well have been tied to your contract with AXA. They may well take the position that they don't provide cover notes for visa applications, & consequently your contract with them is binding.

@mcpinder: My nationality wasn't correct on it. I'm Indian but I reside in the Unites states currently. So I entered this information while buying the policy online but the COI displayed my nationality as United States.

I tried changing that at first but they weren't responsive. Now I don't think I can trust them with my travel insurance and hence I wanted to cancel it.

You are right. I did buy the policy in a hurry. So in a way, I'm at fault.

But overall, the experience with Axa hasn't been a good one.

- Their online support is rudimentary. It shows an option to edit details but you can only edit your name, dob and passport number. Nothing else.

- Email responses to the customer support are either too delayed or not there at all.

I found 2 email addresses online:-

- info.schengen@axa-schengen.com - Get responses after 4-5 days and that too after sending them reminders

- customer.care.bnl@axa-assistance.com - No responses till date. Its been a week since I reached out to them

I don't expect to get my money back but I am going to buy another policy from some other company to be safe. I just don't trust AXA anymore.

Highly recommended!!!!

I have been buying/using AXA travel insurance since 2012 and It has been a very good experience since then. One time, I bought a travel insurance to my cousin but she got denied and I got money back to my account from AXA immediately!!

Axa Schengen seems to be a nice little scam. I am an Indian citizen living in the US. As I am an Indian citizen, I need a Schengen visa to visit Europe as a tourist. One of the required documents for a Schengen visa is a travel insurance and I proceeded to purchase one from Axa Schengen. However, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles did not accept this insurance as it did not have a deductible amount mentioned on it. I asked Axa-Schengen for a letter stating that my insurance had a $0 deductible but they refused to do so. I had to purchase another insurance as I did not want my visa application to be rejected. As my visa had not been technically denied, they refused to refund my insurance.

Axa Schengen is a scam. Their modus operandi is to sell an insurance they know very well will not meet the bar for a Schengen visa. This forces customers to purchase another insurance. They subsequently deny a refund as a visa was not technically rejected.
