Martin is wealthy, good looking and in serious trouble. Someone wants him dead. Someone is stealing, someone is betraying his trust. Alexis and her former boss, Mark work together once again to uncover who is behind all the chaos, murder and betrayal. Likable main characters and mystery to dive through.

Well, first off, I figured out who the culprit was long before the real action happened. It was a hard read due to the slowness and it wasn't until around page 236 that I stopped putting it down. The clues were so obvious from the beginning. I had to get used to the main character's quirkiness and there were times where she used certain adjectives in the wrong context or said things that didn't quite make sense, but I guess that's how she's supposed to be?

A couple of details on previous events would've been nice. For example, who was actually kidnapped, Martin? Maybe I missed that. To me, it would've been better for him to talk about that versus the incident from years ago which had no bearing on the current events.

I was happy there were NO editing errors, which seem to be rare these days ( whether it's a traditionally or self-published author). I did like the investigative portion and collaboration. So in all, I realize this author's writing style is just different, which in some ways for me is good. I'm still curious, and will give the next book in the series a try.

This book was a breathe of fresh air. Not an edge of your seat read it in one go, but entertaining. Learned a few words I had never heard of before, reminiscent of Lawrence Sanders. I am not sure the ending was entirely satisfying. Neither to me or the author. It was like, yes this is the bad guy.....I think. Not clear. The book held my attention, but I had to take breaks from it, if you know what I mean.

There is nothing to turn my engine faster than reading a great mystery or thriller. I love real characters, realistic plots and trouble to get in and back out. In Like Suspects, the author is a writer’s writer. The whole of the book is soundly written, and the characters, for the most part, are likeable, the story was spoiled right off with a corny test of loyalty to get the job. I know people love this type of stuff so I can’t be all that put off, but it did jar me into reading the book without the seriousness I like to carry into the pages. When things start off or become strangely corny I have a hard time getting into the rest of the book. That’s not to say I didn’t finish this one because I did. I came away, however, wishing the author took the story with just a bit more seriousness. No one blows up a building and chances multiple deaths just to get a job. I know lots of bad guys, cops and law enforcement jockeys and so on and none know of anyone ever doing such a reckless thing. It’s the kind of stuff you see in B movies and grant you B movies make money and have been doing so for years. It’s like apples and oranges – some like one or the other but not both. This beginning was way over the top. As I maneuvered through the book, I enjoyed the writing and eventually the characters. Alexis Parker is one of those chicks you either love or hate. You can see her wearing bullet-belts around each shoulder and taking one twenty bad guys while being cornered in a dead-end alley. Of course, she’d beat them all up and come out alive, and that’s what Alexis Parker is. As defined, she might even come from the alley without a scratch, and I guess that’s the problem I have with this type of character. While they are fun in a fantasy world, they’re not real. The story, however, wants us to want Alexis to be real and accept all she does as part of the job – part of life. You half expect her to take three in the chest and still get up, protect the client, get the bad guys and live through the whole mess. Bottom line – I like some and some I didn’t like some just as people do with apples and oranges.

I did enjoy reading this book, it is a easy read. I liked the way the relationships grew between the characters. But if you are looking for a triller detective book then this is not it. I knew who it was less than 25% in and was puzzled to find Alex or Mark never asked the one question that would have at least had them looking in the right direction. I am half way through the second book and though I wont know if I am right until the end the way it is going certainly looks like I may once again have worked it out correctly. But if you want to relax and read a good story with good characters then this book gives that
