Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

During a week end in Malabo, we decided to visit Malabo...the old city and were charmed by the cathedral whose architecture is fantastic.
Congratulations to people of Equatorial Guinea.

This is definitely the first place to visit when you arrive to Malabo. In the night, the only word that was said by all of us was Wow!

One of the colonial style buildings in the old town of Malabo. It was the former German consulate at the time nearby Cameroon was a German colony (before 1918). Closed for renovation, only outside view possible. Should become a museum. Be careful with taking photos, it is an official building.

When we pulled up to this church in the rough & tumble nighborhood of San Fernando, there wasn't much to suggest that this church would be worth much of any time. But once you walked inside the sanctuary of the church, it was obvious why locals had recommended that I visit. The architecture may be unremarkable, but the vibrant colors that adorn the interior are very dynamic as illustrated by the attached pics. The massive mural behind the altar illustrate not only Catholic imagery but also local communities.

It doesnt take long to absorb the beauty so it is probably more like a 10-minute visit for most. But it is certainly worth the quick stop. But be forewarned, if you go on a hot day there is no air conditioning ... only fans.

I have traveled to over 200 countries, had many many tours, I am sorry to say this is the first one where I had bad experience. The internary I was sent was not delivered. It had a number of walks on trails in national parks, etc none of this happened. The tour leader that met me at the airport took me to a hotel, the door handle came in my hand and when we changed rooms the Air did not work, neither the Wifi. He told me the wifi does not work well anywhere on the Island. I asked for a change to a different hotel. He said you have to pay $15 per night extra, I said fine. The next hotel which is a different one in the chain was quite good and that wifi was fine. On the last day there was supposed to be a program, he sent a message that I needed to pay double to the hotel and I will be picked up by someone else before my flight, no program !!!!. On the daily programs we returned at the hotel 3 Pm on one day 2:30 on another. Very little interest in the client. When you asked them you are told we are the best and only tour company on the Island. They are a new company that has a lot to learn and the owners need to be more involved and know how other tour companies run their business. I had just completer two recent tours to Eritrea and Mali, certainly challenging area, but both were wonderful and the tour leaders and guides were quite engaging.
