CUNY Grad Schools and Programs Ranked Among 2023 Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News

School of Law Retains No. 1 Spot for Clinical Law Education

Other Standout Programs Include MPAs at John Jay, Nonprofit Management at Baruch’s Marxe School, Nursing at CSI and Public Health Programs at CUNY SPH

Standout graduate programs at eight CUNY schools have been ranked among the nation’s premier advanced academic degrees by U.S. News & World Report. CUNY School of Law retained its No.1 ranking for clinical law education, cementing its national reputation as a pioneer in immersive, experiential training in legal service and advocacy for people from underrepresented groups.

In addition, graduate schools and programs at Baruch College, College of Staten Island, the CUNY Graduate Center, the CUNY School of Public Health, Hunter College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and The City College of New York were also named as standouts.

“Just as our undergraduate programs have garnered a reputation in national rankings for their quality and affordability, it only stands to follow that our graduate schools are in turn lauded for the same positive attributes in assessments of their master’s and doctoral offerings,” said Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez. “While remaining true to our mission as the nation’s unparalleled engine of social mobility, CUNY’s graduate schools are thriving and producing the next generation of leaders in social work, engineering, business, public-interest law, government and an array of other fields.”

Graduate enrollment at CUNY has increased from 25,830 in Fall 2017 to about 30,540 in Fall 2021 according to figures that are unofficial but nearly final. That marks an increase of about 4,710 students — or more than 18 percent — over five academic years, bucking nationwide enrollment declines ofrecent years.

CUNY offers 500 master’s degree programs, 50 doctoral degree programs and 150 advanced certificate programs. The University awards nearly 10,000 graduate degrees per year.
