Summary

  • Wyatt's departure from The Bold and the Beautiful was a surprise, with fans learning about Darin Brooks' exit in 2024.
  • The only reason Wyatt gave for his departure from the soap opera was that he "needed a change".
  • While Wyatt's exit seemed sudden, there is speculation that he may return to the soap opera universe, possibly on The Young and the Restless.

"Is Wyatt leaving The Bold and the Beautiful?" was a question fans had going into season 37, and they got their answer when the character and his actor Darin Brooks left the show. The Bold and the Beautiful is a CBS soap opera and one of the longest-running TV shows of all time. Premiering in 1987, there have been over 9,000 episodes of the soap, a tremendous amount that still doesn't rival its sister series, The Young and the Restless with 12,500 episodes. One of the consummate soaps, the show has seen hundreds of characters come through its set.

Like any soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful has seen popular characters leave and exit. Wyatt joined the long list of series departures in 2024. Wyatt Spencer is the secret eldest son of Bill Spencer, Jr. (Don Diamont) and Quinn Fuller (Rena Sofer) who was raised alone by Quinn before joining the Spencer media empire. Charming, tough, and with a good business mind, Wyatt immediately came onto the series as a major threat to other long-standing Spencer family members. But even a character as beloved as Wyatt eventually runs his course.

Due to the serialized format of the daytime TV shows, many big-name actors started their careers playing characters on popular soap operas.

The Wyatt Actor's Bold And The Beautiful Contract Likely Ended

Darin Brooks Had Worked 12 Seasons On The Show

Though there has been no official reason given as to why Darin Brooks was let go from The Bold and the Beautiful, the simplest reason is also the likeliest: Brooks' contract probably ended. When an actor on The Bold and the Beautiful is getting set up to be removed from the series, their names stop appearing in the opening sequence (via The Express). Even the best opening credit sequences in TV history are often skipped after enough times through, so most fans were probably not immediately aware that Brooks' name had disappeared in 2023.

Among Wyatt's many romantic plotlines, two of his biggest were ones with Florence "Flo" Fulton (Katrina Bowden) and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope), not to be confused with her great aunt Sally Spectra (Darlene Conley). However, the junior Sally left The Bold and the Beautiful in 2020, with her character crossing over to The Young and the Restless. Flo left the show in 2022, at which point Wyatt's screen time began to diminish as well, as he was without two of his major scene partners.

In 2023, Brooks confirmed what fans were beginning to suspect about his character when he posted a goodbye message on his Instagram,

Brooks himself seems slightly caught off guard by his dismissal from the show but he does not appear to hold any ill will towards the decision. His comments imply that the experience was a great one for the actor who joined the series just a few years after playing Alex Moran on Blue Mountain State, a role many may know him from. Other actors from the soap were quick to jump into Brooks' comments and express their gratitude and love suggesting there was no ill-will in regards to his departure, with Don Diamont who plays Wyatt's father Bill commenting,

"WHAAATTT!!!! I had no idea! You’re not just another actor. You interpret material with originality! The interaction of the Spencer men is not to be taken for granted. That material is lifted off the page, and turned into what the audience sees with your individual, and exceptional interpretation both dramatically and comedically, and with what the three of us create interacting as a team. You know I love you as an actor, and a person! I am broken hearted💔‼️"

Wyatt's Bold And The Beautiful Exit Explained

There Was Never A Good Reason Given For Darin Brooks' Exit

Wyatt's exit from The Bold and the Beautiful was actually something of a two-parter. First, there was Brooks posting about his imminent departure. He appeared less and less in the show, and it seemed like his character would simply fizzle away. However, then in January 2024, Wyatt popped up in season 37, episode 82. He suddenly reappears at Bill's beach house (which is revealed to actually be in Wyatt's name), but instead of kicking his father out, Wyatt tells Bill that he urgently needs to leave LA, as he needs a change in his life.

Or... it could be a major hint that Wyatt will be returning in the sister series The Young and the Restless.

It's not a great reason but at least it's something. Bill seems content enough with it at least and refers to his son as "restless". This could be just a father smiling and shaking his head at a son who can't stay tied down for long. Or... it could be a major hint that Wyatt will be returning in the sister series The Young and the Restless. It's perhaps a bit of a stretch, but jumping from one series to the other is totally normal in this universe — just look at Wyatt's former paramour, Sally.

Wyatt could easily become a character in the next season of The Young and the Reckless, and from the sound of his Instagram, he seems like he would be very interested in continuing to play the part. With how sudden his departure was, and how even his close castmates were unaware of him leaving, it could be that these soap operas make casting decisions extremely quickly. Just because there is no news today about Wyatt and Darrin Brooks, does not mean there won't be any in the future.

Darin Brooks Would Happily Work With Sally Actor Courtney Hope Again

Wyatt Could Reappear On The Young And The Restless

Sally (Courtney Hope) and Wyatt (Darrin Brooks) about to kiss on The Bold and the Beautiful.

If Brooks' Instagram post wasn't enough to show that he would happily return to play Wyatt, he also commented on how he would enjoy working with Courtney Hope, again. Brooks said (via WGTC),

"If Wyatt made a list, Sally'd be right there at the top of it. So yeah, I'd jump at any chance to work with Courtney again, on either show!"

This could mean a few things. It could simply be Brooks proudly gushing about his co-star and making sure everyone knows how great of an actor Hope was to work with. It could also be Brooks being a good sport and playing a game that he knows fans of The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless will enjoy. Finally, it could show Brooks' real interest in returning to the character and either series.

Wyatt returning from The Bold and the Beautiful and using all his bad-boy charm to woo Sally away from Adam would be an exciting storyline.

Wyatt could very easily slot back into either show but if his father Bill is already referring to him as "restless", then perhaps The Young and the Restless is exactly where he should be. Sally and Wyatt's relationship did completely fall apart by the end, and Sally now has a serious relationship with Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) on The Young and the Restless. Soap operas are no strangers to reintroducing old flames, however, and Wyatt returning from The Bold and the Beautiful and using all his bad-boy charm to woo Sally away from Adam would be an exciting storyline.

Wyatt was also an incorrigible playboy on The Bold and the Beautiful so he could also come to The Young and the Restless and start up a whole new romance. He's a headstrong character who does whatever he likes, so the showrunners have plenty of ways to put him into storylines and let him cause some chaos. Wyatt was too good of a character to be let go on The Bold and the Beautiful, and hopefully, Darin Brooks has a chance to grace the soap opera's universe again.
