Harborfields High School has introduced a pivotal change in my life as grow up to be an individual who strives for the greatest of goals and accomplishments. Growing up during the COVID pandemic was challenging at first, but my experience would eventually transform into one of great embrace from faculty staff, teachers, and students. Endeavoring into a variety of different activities with sports, extracurriculars, and weekly school events made Harborfields not just an educational center for learning, but a lifestyle to explore the different opportunities it had to offer during my 4 years here. Harborfields will be the monumental site of great memories and learning experiences that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Teachers range from supportive and great dedication to their students to ignorant and unwilling to help students at all. There was not much transparent planning or aid available for college preparation, leaving me confused and extremely stressed out throughout the college application process. My guidance counselor is extremely sweet and helpful when I ask for specific advice, but not much progress is made unless I am the one to reach out to her. The food is decent as best, but there are not many options. School spirit is high, but the diversity of extracurricular activities and clubs is mediocre. The school often smells and the bathrooms are rarely clean. Mental health and personal circumstances are often not taken seriously or into consideration by administration, leaving students to fend for themselves.
Harborfields has set me on a good path for college. The teachers in the high school have a solid understanding of what students need to be prepared for independent social and academic life past grade school and have gone above and beyond multiple times to ensure a proper education.
Joseph started his first year at Harborfields HS learning remotely with the rest of the class of 2024. Even though he wasn’t able to experience the crowed hallways, meeting friends at their lockers and participating in any sporting events or clubs, the school did an exceptional job having the class acclimate to the homeschool process. He learned how to manage his free time and to take accountability to signing in to classes remotely timely and accurately. When the class was able to return to in school learning, the teachers and staff made everyone feel safe and made the transition smooth. The next 3 years, went according to the plan with no issues. Class schedules were easily prepared, teachers were always accommodating when necessary and all his coaches have been nothing but professional and supportive. Weekly updates from the school were definitely beneficial and appreciated. Harborfields HS is an exceptional learning institution.
Great school. I loved it there. I am now planning on going to college for business and the teachers are great and helpful along the way.
My experience at Harborfields highschool was overall pretty good. I had a very positive experience socially and with a majority of the teachers and other staff. There are some negatives, primarily with the facilities as well as some problems with some teachers not following my 504 as I am a diabetic student. The bathrooms are over 30-40 years old and most of them have sinks and toilets that don’t work, at least not consistently. The air flow within the school has also posed as an issue as many of the students in the hotter months agree that it gets almost unbearably hot in some of the classrooms. Many of the rooms lack any air conditioning at all so many of them are very hot and even the ones with ac still remain hot because they’re small units attempting to heat the whole section of the school. Some sports also lack funding comparatively to some of the other sports, for example football is very well funded, but many of the other sports don’t get that same experience.
I had a pretty standard experience at this highschool. I was involved in sports and the visual arts and had great mentors within those programs. However, I didn't feel super appreciated by the school for my efforts and wished the school fostered more of a relationship with students to help encourage leaders like myself to step up.
The small environment can be really pleasant for many, although it also can be a problem sometimes when mentioning the limited higher education class choices they can offer. Despite that, Harborfields tries to accommodate students in all directions of career paths. And much of the faculty is very supportive depending on who you get for classrooms.
Small- everyone knows everyone. Also, smaller school means fewer resources and programs. If I had a choice, I would have attended a larger school district with more programs.
I like how harborfields is one big family and we always come together for events in the community. Also the staff at harborfields is amazing. They always try to help there students as much as they can. The only thing I would change about harborfields is that we should have more diversity because we are then able to meet people from different cultures and get to know them.
Harborfields was a great experience, I learned so much and feel that I am ready for College and everything that comes next.
I have had a great experience with this high school. Majority of teachers are great, and the students are really good people. Side note, the kids that attend this school are almost generally wealthy.
Overall a really great school with passionate teachers. However, as with anything, there are exceptions. There are some teachers that will hardly teach and give you busy work. The administration is supportive of the students and isn't too strict either. There are great extracurriculars, especially the music programs. I feel like I feel very lucky to have grown up in this district.
Harborfields very friendly environment. There are excellent teachers and well-rounded students. It is a small community in Centerport and Greenlawn where everyone has each others backs! Wonderful atmosphere to raise children and gives kids many opportunities to succeed in any field! Go tornadoes!
This is a good high school! It offers a lot of AP classes, the teachers are fairly good, and we have a good culture as a school.
I liked the environment that Harborfields High School had to offer! From the great education, to amazing staff that cares about each and every kids success. It truly is like a family and I am beyond grateful to have been given the opportunity to attend this school!
Harborfields High School was the best 4 years of my life. It was a close-knit community that felt like family. We call ourselves HFamily for a reason. The students and faculty are unbelievably supportive of one another and there is a unity among all of us that makes our academics, music, sports, and clubs flourish. I developed some of my closest relationships in high school with both my peers and faculty. My orchestra teacher was my best friend and taught me so much more than just how to play the cello. I believe Harborfields prepared me very well for college, through developing a strong work ethic and determination. I hope to one day have my children attend Harborfields High School so they too can experience the stimulating and encouraging environment this school and community have to offer.
The only negative of Harborfields is that does not have a lot of diversity among its students and teachers. When I went off to study at Hofstra University I was inspired by the true diversity.
