Outside the classroom, ASU students can get involved by joining more than 70 campus clubs and by playing for the ASU Hornets varsity sports teams, which compete in the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Given Alabama State University’s history, it’s no surprise that its more notable alumni include prominent civil rights leaders, such as the Rev. Ralph David Abernathy, the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth and Fred Gray, the attorney who defended Rosa Parks during the Montgomery Bus Boycott and Martin Luther King’s first civil rights lawyer.
