Prison Break veteran Dominic Purcell has revealed that we have him and co-star Wentworth Miller to thank for the show's big comeback.

Purcell told press including Digital Spy that he and Miller took the idea of a Prison Break revival to Fox, only to find that the network was already thinking along similar lines...

"Wentworth and I decided, 'Why not revisit Prison Break?' - and so we went to the studio and they were excited about the idea and here we are.

"Prison Break was such an iconic show and it was something that we were very interested in revisiting, and they pulled out all the stops. So it's going to be a tremendous show."

Purcell - who originally played wrongfully convicted felon Lincoln Burrows on the show from 2005-2009 - added that "the dominos started to fall" once Miller came out of semi-retirement.

"I think the studio always wanted to at some point revisit Prison Break, but at some point Wentworth kind of semi-retired from the business," he said.

"He gave himself a break and focused on writing. He's jumped back into the fray now - and as soon as Wentworth was on board, that's when the dominos started to fall."

Prison Break is expected to begin shooting new episodes in April, with Sarah-Wayne Callies (Sara Tancredi), Robert Knepper (T-Bag) and more classic cast members set to return.
