2023-2024 Ignatian Law Scholars

Ignatian Law Scholars

The Ignatian Law Scholars Program recognizes particularly promising members of the entering law school class, whose applications reflect the Jesuit values of commitment to academic excellence and service to others. The Ignatian Law Scholars receive a renewable Dean’s Scholarship and assigned faculty and alumni mentors to help with the transition to law school and practice. In addition, Ignatian Scholars gather for special events each semester to get to know each other and other members of the law school community.

Application Requirements

Juris Doctor

Applications to Loyola University New Orleans College of Law JD, JD/MBA, JD/MPA, and JD/MURP programs must be submitted through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). The College of Law will accept applications for the Fall 2024 class from October 15, 2023 through July 15, 2024. The application portal will promptly close July 15, 2024, 5pm CT. Loyola does not charge an application fee. A complete application includes:

GRE Takers
Applicants who elect to take the GRE must instruct ETS to send Loyola University New Orleans College of Law all GRE test scores from the preceding five-year period. Applicants who have already taken the GRE can log into their ETS account and select Loyola University New Orleans College of Law as a recipient of GRE results using the school code: 4810. Once the application and CAS registration are submitted to LSAC, contact the Office of Law Admissions at ladmit@loyno.edu or (504) 861-5575 complete the application process. JD-Next Takers
Applicants who elect to apply with the results of their JD-Next Exam must elect Loyola Law to receive the results. Once those candidates complete their application for admission, candidates must notify the Office of Law Admissions at ladmit@loyno.edu of their decision to applying using their JD-Next Exam Score. For more information about how to apply using with JD-Next scores, please visit our JD-Next FAQ. Loyola Law requires candidates who apply with only JD-Next scores, must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better to be considered for admission as a new JD student. 

International Students
International applicants must take the LSAT or GRE, unless they have earned an international law degree. All foreign transcripts sent to LSAC will be evaluated and processed through the CAS Report. Loyola Law also requires the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores, including the Test of Written English and the Test of Spoken English for applicants in which English is a foreign language.

Transfer Application

A student who has pursued law study at another law school may apply for transfer or advanced standing admission by Loyola Law’s Transfer & Select Foreign Attorneys Application available through LSAC. Transfer applicants must also present evidence of eligibility required of entering students the year in which they began the study of law and present evidence of above-average academic study in their prior law record. A complete Transfer application includes:

  • Most recent CAS report,
  • Two letters of recommendation; one letter must be written by a law professor,
  • Letter of good standing from previous law school,
  • An official copy of most recent law school transcript, and
  • An explanation for transfer.

Loyola Law reviews applications on a rolling basis. Our goal is to build a diverse student body that is committed to the ideals of a Jesuit-centered education. The Faculty Admissions Committee reviews applications for admission on a rolling basis. The Committee takes a holistic approach in reviewing each application for admission. In addition to the LSAT and/or GRE score and undergraduate academic record, the Committee considers a candidate’s graduate and/or professional school record if applicable; letters of recommendation; personal statement; resume; employment, leadership, and life experiences; extracurricular involvement; community service; military service; character and fitness statements, if applicable; and, LSAT or GRE writing sample, if applicable; and other explanatory or supporting addenda.

A visiting student will be admitted dependent upon space availability in the specific course(s) selected. In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to research the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission.
