The One Piece world is incredibly massive and has been wonderfully crafted by Eiichiro Oda, the author of the story. Over the years, fans have seen Oda draw some incredible places, such as the sky, islands, which resemble the heavens themselves and Fishman Island, which lies at the depth of the ocean and mimics the earth itself.

Similarly, Oda has drawn some mind-blowing places over the years that also carry tremendous significance to the story. One such place is Oahra, which fans were introduced to during the Enies Lobby arc. As fans know, Ohara holds great significance in the One Piece world and is also extremely relevant to the character of Nico Robin, the archaeologist of the Straw Hat Pirates.

The Scholars Of Ohara

The very first introduction of Ohara came in Enies Lobby arc in the flashback of Nico Robin. Ohara was an island that existed in the West Blue and was known to be the island of scholars. Robin's mother, Nico Olvia, was from this place. And, just like Robin, she was also an archaeologist. She left Robin at a very young age and, as such, she was raised by her uncle and his family instead. Given that her mother was extremely interested in archaeology, it is no surprise that Robin took a deep interest in this art as well and eventually, became the youngest archaeologist on the island at the mere age of eight. The Enies Lobby arc showed the fans quite a lot about how the scholars of Ohara worked.

As evident from the flashback, they studied the Poneglyphs and were close to finding out the true history of the world, also known as the Void Century. The World Government has forbidden the studies of any historical text related to the Void Century. As such, deciphering the Poneglyphs was forbidden and that is what eventually led to the downfall of Ohara. Interestingly, in the Egghead Island arc, it was revealed to the fans that Clover, the lead scholar of Ohara, was once an explorer and often set out to sea in search of traces of history. He was wanted by the government and arrested several times. However, he escaped every single time and eventually settled down on Ohara.

Soon, this place became a hub for all the famous archaeologists in the world. At the same time, the tree of knowledge was also present on this island and this tree was planted thousands of years ago. At its peak, Ohara was able to decipher several truths about the Void Century. During this time, Nico Robin also managed to learn how to read these stones and currently, she is one of the very few people alive in the world who can actually decipher the Poneglyphs.

The Buster Call Of Ohara

One Piece Ohara Incident

The destruction of O'Hara came shortly after the arrest of Nico Olvia, Robin's mother. After she managed to escape from the grasp of the Navy, she rushed home in an attempt to warn the archaeologists about the incoming raid of the Navy. Suspecting that the people of Ohara are studying ancient scripts of the Poneglyphs, the Navy launched a full-scale inspection of the island, specifically inside the Tree of Knowledge. The Cipher Pol was also mobilized and the then CP9 led the operation themselves. Unfortunately for the people of Ohara, they manage to find a Poneglyph there and immediately after, realized that Clover and his men were indeed studying these ancient scripts.

In fact, the group was revealed to have made quite a lot of progress in this field as well. Clover had already found out a lot about the existence of the Ancient Kingdom that once prospered in the past. This Ancient Kingdom was, most likely, at war and was utterly destroyed, leaving no trace behind. Clover also deduced that their enemies are likely what the World Government is made up of right now. In fact, he even went as far as to learn the name of the Ancient Kingdom, however, shortly before he could reveal it, Clover was shot through the chest. What followed was a Buster Call on the island, which was led by five Vice Admirals and 10 battleships. Expectedly, Ohara was completely wiped out from the face of the earth.

The Embers Of Ohara

While the Buster Call certainly succeeded in destroying the island of Ohara, the flames of scholars living there did not vanish. While most of them ended up dying, Nico Robin survived, thanks to help from Jaguar D. Saul and the then Vice Admiral, Aokiji. Robin carries Ohara deep within her heart and to this day, represents them as a force against the World Government. As long as she lives, Ohara also lives. Interestingly, Nico Robin is not the only person who carries the will of Ohara inside her. The genius scientist of the navy, Dr. Vegapunk, is another one and he learned quite a lot about Ohara and the incident that occurred there long ago as well.

Vegapunk revealed to Robin that shortly after the Buster Call on the island, he paid a visit there and found giants recovering the books from the lake on the island. These books are what carry true knowledge and, thankfully, they were recovered and taken to Elbaf. At the very same time, Vegapunk also revealed that Jaguar D. Saul, the giant who helped Nico Robin escape from Ohara, is alive. Although covered in bandages, he currently resides on Elbaf and, just like Robin and Vegapunk, he also carries the will of Ohara within himself. As long as these characters are living, Ohara will never truly die. Despite the terrible tragedy that they faced, Ohara is alive and fighting and will eventually try to overthrow the World Government of the One Piece world.
