In Carbondale, Southern Illinois University provides a friendly community and a diverse academic atmosphere. The campus offers a beautiful setting for education thanks to its abundance of greenery and contemporary amenities. A sense of community and belonging is fostered by the variety of extracurricular activities and clubs available to students. Modern facilities are available on campus to help students in their academic endeavors. There are outdoor recreation and exploration opportunities in the vicinity. Overall, Southern Illinois University in Carbondale provides a neutral experience where students can immerse themselves in academics while enjoying a peaceful and scenic campus environment.
Ever since 2019, I have dreamt about going to Southern Illinois University, as I heard excellent reviews about their educational department. I am blessed to be accepted into their Special Education Department, and pursing my dream of becoming a special education teacher! The teachers, supervisors and students are very supportive and helpful towards one’s career choice. I have had caring and supportive professors all throughout my time here, and continuously learning every day. I also love the online and in person learning opportunities. Along with the many career opportunities for students!
The campus is very pretty and easily walkable for the able-bodied. It is rather hilly, though, and a lot of the buildings do not have great accessibility so it is not wheel-chair friendly. The campus housing is nice and is on the bigger side compared to other colleges. The bathrooms are only shared between two rooms instead of the whole floor. The professors are a mixed bag of quality. In my experience, the larger general lectures typically have worse professors in terms of teaching capability during lectures and office hours. The food is decent and offers some variety. The unlimited entry, buffet style is very nice. The surrounding city offers some nightlife but is easily avoidable. There is a variety of restaurants there that are good, especially Thai Taste. The city does have a bus system that students can use for free that goes to some shopping locations but not many housing areas. It would be nice for additional stops to be added for those without cars.
