Had a large order in the morning, I called ahead, paid in advance, and did everything on my end to make sure it would be ready... They left me high and dry with no food. The worst part about it was that they didn't even alert me. I found out 15 minutes before picking up because I took the initiative to call. They're completely unorganized. The person on the phone was completely unapologetic, and responded "this sucks for us too."... who says that to a customer?
Regardless of what happened, the person on the phone didn't even have my order even though I had called Tuesday after purchasing it online to check in with the staff. Unacceptable.
Regardless of what happened, they should have been proactive and called immediately.

This is not your average sandwich shop. The sandwiches are top notch - the bread and meat quality is very high. Had the BBQ pulled pork (a 10+) and a cuban pork sandwich - . I preferred the BBQ pulled pork but both were awesome. The atmosphere is nice/cozy and will go back as they have a good beer selection. Thank for taking sandwiches to the next level.

Love this place for a quick bit of take out for lunch. I only wish they were open later for dinner or a late lunch :)

The sandwiches are tasty and you usually get great coupons in the mail. Not a great location to sit down and eat, but perfect for takeout.

Took my wife, daughter, son-in-law and grand-child to the Trough for lunch. While they all enjoyed their lunch, I was disappointed. I ordered a Braised Pork sandwich and it was nothing like the pictures, was heavily salted. In fairness, the rest of the gang enjoyed their meals and we will go back.

I had read about Trough in an article in the OC Register by Brad Johnson, “Top 20 Places for Cheap Eats in Orange County”. Trough is a distance from where I live but I was playing golf at a near by course and took to opportunity to try Trough. It is tucked away in a shopping center at the corner Antonio Parkway and Santa Margarita. Look for Carmelitas down a flight of steps and it is next door. Boy I was glad I did. They make a very good sandwich. I arrived well after lunch time and was the only one in the sandwich shop. Staff greeted me and I told them that as this was my first time give me a few suggestions on what to order. I had read a few reviews on Yelp and had an idea of what I wanted so when the guy behind the counter mentioned the Caprese that was a done deal. The sandwich is roasted chicken breast, tomato jam, mozzarella, basil/olive oil Aioli, arugula on a Squaw Roll. For a side I got the mac and cheese with bacon. I took home my order and enjoyed both. Sandwich was well constructed and had great flavor. Mac and Cheese was good with plenty of bacon. Now I have had great sandwiches in shops in New York City and South Florida (most recently V & S deli) and compared to those The Trough is a half-step below but still a wonderful sandwich. Therefore only 4 stars but I would say for what I have had in Orange County CA, it would be a 5 star location. For sure will be back when I again play that golf course.

We got several turkey sandwiches to go and they were wonderful. They had plenty of meat and garnishments as well. They are a little on the high side $$$, but they are very good.

We went here for a Saturday lunch and were not disappointed. The breakfast bowls are wonderful! Everything was fresh and cooked well. We don't live here, or we would definitely be back soon.

Been there a few times and the sandwiches are great. Everyone is very friendly too! And since it’s so close to home, I’ll probably eat there a lot more often.

I had the farmers market pick sandwich. I am vegetarian, although all of the sandwiches looked fantastic. I wish there would have been a few other veggie options, but the one I had was delicious so I didn't mind too much!

This is based on take-out. Although the sandwich selection is a bit limited, each one that we have tried (most recently Cha Shiu pork) is well prepared and very tasty. Lots of interesting optional side dishes such as pickled eggs. Definitely worth a try. Not 'cheap eat', but not overpriced either.

Sad that they dont offer a gluten-free option. Maybe they will one day soon. As for the food, it's 'ok', but with only a couple people in line ahead of us, it took almost 20 minutes to get a sandwich, being that they are set up like a Quiznos; you'd think they could make a sandwich quicker. They moved very slow. They dont necessarily make bad sandwiches, just dont have the 'wow' factor.

I’d been tempted to give them a try for over a year, and one afternoon, out of new ideas for lunch, I stopped in to get a sandwich to go. The inside is nicely decorated, and ordering at the register is straightforward. There wasn't a lot of cheer or personality in my order taker, but I was here for the food.
I ordered a turkey club, easy mayo. After about 10 minutes, watching my sandwich being prepared. I was presented with a sandwich in a nice cardboard container in a thoughtful to-go bag. The sandwich had been translated from my request of “easy mayo” to being made as “no tomatoes”.
Despite the mix up on my request for easy mayo, I ate the sandwich as it was delivered, and was wishing I had tried this place sooner. The turkey was thick-sliced and tasted fresh. The roll was full of flavor, and the size, although it was a $9 sandwich, was still a good size, for me anyway.
I will definitely be back to give a few other sandwiches a try.

This place serves various kind of sandwitches and price is reasonable. It has a good view of lake, and relaxing atmosphere. I went once with my daughter-in-law and my 2 year old grandson, and they were good to the little kid. They have something little kids can eat. I recommend this place for lunch.
