Jim and Audrey McAllister will continue to meddle in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones, who recur on Young Sheldon as Mandy’s parents, have boarded the highly anticipated spinoff as series regulars, TVLine has learned. They join Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, who will reprise their titular roles as Georgie and Mandy.
Sasso and Jones will make their final Young Sheldon appearance in Part 1 of Thursday’s series finale. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will follow this fall and inherit Young Sheldon‘s Thursdays-at-8/7c time slot on CBS; a premiere date has not yet been announced.
Both actors have history with Big Bang Theory franchise co-creator Chuck Lorre: The former recurred on Mom as Jill’s eventual husband Andy, and guest-starred in a Season 7 episode of Two and a Half Men. The latter recurred throughout both seasons of United States of Al as Art’s girlfriend Lois.
Following Georgie and Mandy’s wedding, the newlyweds, along with their infant daughter CeeCee, moved in with Jim and Audrey. Shortly thereafter, Georgie went to work for his father-in-law at the family’s auto shop, setting Sheldon’s older brother up for his Big Bang Theory future as Dr. Tire. Watch a recap below:
Unlike single-camera comedy Young Sheldon, multi-cam Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will shoot in front of a live studio audience — just like The Big Bang Theory.
The spinoff’s title is a play on previously established Big Bang Theory lore: In the hit sitcom’s 2019 series finale, Nobel Prize winner Sheldon said he received congratulatory texts from Georgie’s ex-wife… and Georgie’s other ex-wife.
During a recent interview with TVLine, Osment expressed hope that the new show would find a way to undo (or at the very least tinker with) Georgie’s marital history.
“I’m hoping that I’m the ex-wife and the new wife,” she said. “People get divorced and remarried. Why can’t she be both?”
Judging by the title, it sounds like that’s precisely what producers have in mind.

Good cast. Wishing the company well. Sitcoms seem to be low on the program menu these days. Legacy is a blessing and a curse. Smart writing always wins out. Looking forward.
Agreed, like the cast, and if it’s a hit it could mean more chances for other comedies, which we need right now.
But what about Missy, Mary and Meemaw? This show won’t make any sense if they aren’t on it.
The actress who plays Missy already is on record that she won’t be part of the spinoff… She’s moving onto new parts of her life. So, unless they recast. Annie Potts is not talking as if she’s going to be part of it. But that might change as the cast becomes set.
So looks like they are retconning another TBBT lore:
When Georgie showed up in the final season of TBBT, we found out him and Sheldon are estranged because Sheldon never checked in once he left for CalTech after George Sr. died and Georgie had to take care of Mary and Missy all on his own.
Annoying…
Yeah, I don’t know how they are going to do it, without having Mary and Missy (and MeeMaw) in it. Adult Georgie said Mary was a mess and he had to take care of everything, so I don’t know if they will show that or not.
He may have meant take care of them financially which he could still do even if they aren’t shown on-screen.
They need Meehan. She took Mandy in, helped them all along the way. She’s their rock.
There is a horrible thought recasting Missy. That is not going to happen.
I’m not sure about MeeMaw, but my guess is that the series finale is going to see Mary and Missy moving away and starting over without George.
That would break established continuity from TBBT.
More likely is, they’re referenced but not seen
Won’t be the first time they have retconned established TBBT lore. 🙄
Glad to know they are confirmed as regulars. I figured they would be since Georgie and Mandy were living with them. Will Sasso is hilarious. I hope we see MeeMaw, Mary and Missy on occasion. It’s hard to imagine them not being in Georgie’s life. Raegan Revord, who plays Missy has stated she was ready to move on from that character, so I don’t know if she would be up for it.
I’ve LOVED sasso since his days on mad TV and am always bummed out that he hasn’t found a show that sticks. Happy to hear he’s a regular on this! Here’s to a long healthy run and episode count!
I don’t think I had ever watched him until I saw him on Young Sheldon. He is hilarious. I loved his interactions with George, his wife and Georgie.
Without Meemaw I’m out.
Agreed. The tension with the in-laws is a familiar sitcom trope that can be done well, but her character has been nothing but icy since her introduction and I cringe through her storylines. The spinoff will likely help thaw her character, but at the moment, it’s not a real incentive to tune in for more of her cheap shots and meanness toward all members of her family.
Sasso’s character is fine, and sometimes funny. But “mean” and “just fine” are big steps down from a core cast that has worked so well on YS. I hope the spinoff works.
Kinda torn about this. Too bad the full cast, minus Sheldon, couldn’t continue on. I know what’s supposed to happen with George, but they rewrite things all the time. It’ll be different seeing Georgie with none of his family.
They’ll have to lighten up Audrey, who started out as a terrible, disapproving mom (but gradually became slightly nicer with the arrival of the new baby, though she still spent most scenes scowling). Jim started out as a stereotypical henpecked husband (and eventually George’s buddy), so they’ll also need to give his character new dimensions as he becomes Georgie’s business mentor.
Will Sasso Yes! The mother in-law No way. She’s unlikeable.
She is funny
I imagine there will be more cast additions announced in the next few weeks. Very hard to have a successful show with just four characters. Not impossible but not likely. They may not want to overshadow the end of Young Sheldon.
They should bring on Annie Potts.
She’s said she’s worried YS might be her last gig. There’s no doubt she’d remain if they asked her–and they should. She’d have at least two Emmys by now if it had been on Netflix instead of CBS.
I think they need MeeMaw as a regular, Mary as recurring and Missy as occasional guest star since she is not interested in continuing. MeeMaw vs. Audrey could be some great comedy! So happy to see Will Sasso as a regular. Loved him since MadTV and hopefully this one works for him!
Now that it seems that Young Sheldon is basically Adult Sheldon writing his autobiography, then how does this spinoff work? It might more sense if Young Sheldon didn’t do the autobiography reveal but I also assume we are just not to think too hard about it and let them try and make money off a spinoff show.
Not sure why the two can’t be separate. Young Sheldon was always about Sheldon’s youth. It was narrated by him. We just got to know the Coopers (and MeeMaw) a lot better (thankfully), because they were a lot of fun. George Sr. especially was my favorite. The new spinoff won’t involve Sheldon, since he galavants off to Caltech.
Annie Potts as MeeMaw should be in George and Mandy’s First Marriage.
So much looking forward to it
Looking forward to the Young Sheldon spinoff!
I hope they bring in the other characters now and again though.
I forsee the first seasons ratings not being as strong and they’ll retool it with a second season by bringing Missy, Mary, and Meemaw back.
So happy they decided to venture out with this new series but don’t understand why the rest of the Cooper’s can’t have roles as well. Annie Potts is an amazing actress and meemaw will be missed by a certain age group I think the show appeals to all age groups and Meemaw helped us see that seniors can age in a fun way and still be sexy.. BRING BACK ANNIE POTTS… Not only is she CiCi’s namesake but she’s also the first one of Georgie’s family to accept Mandy, take her in, and provide for her while she was pregnant..
After that type of bond it seems very unlikely that she would just disappear and not see any of them again.
Mandy’s mother is intolerable in my opinion. I don’t find her the least bit likeable. How Georgie and Mandy can live with them is beyond me. It’s been established from the time Mandy met Georgie that she doesn’t get along with her mother.
It wouldn’t make sense that Mary and Meemaw aren’t part of their lives since everyone is still living in Medford (?). How would their absence be explained?
Can’t wait, but I hope Georgie’s mom & sister appear once in awhile also! And Sheldon of course!
I refuse to watch it without Memaw and Mary. I saw Annie Potts give an interview and she was very sad about this very issue. The characters you chose to leave out all worked together as a team to make Young Sheldon successful without them you wouldn’t even have a Georgie & Missy show so we’re not interested in your show.
I love YS and am ecstatic that their will be a spinoff. I love Mandy and Georgie (Patrick Swayze & Carrie Underwood) come on y’all know its true. They look just like them, okay so the producers would be stupid not to keep Annie Potts memaw as a series regular and have Zoe Perry and Ian Armetige make regular guest appearances, and I’m sure the actress who plays missy says she is moving on but money talks, come on, she could make a phone call from time to time with a split screen or something, but I’m very happy Will Sasso and the actress playing his wife have signed on but absaloutley the others memaw and Zoe Perry and Sheldon need to make appearance but so happy for Mandy and Georgie can’t wait
I like Georgie but unless they include Memaw, Missy and Mary I don t see it being popular.
I’m a fan of both actors,
So I’m so looking forward to their series.
And, I’m also a fan of the actors who play
her parents.
So excited about this series!
I know the writers will do an awesome job!!
I think there should have been
The last 6 episodes of Young Sheldon shown I n September. It would have showed Sheldon adjusting to Caltech. Did Meemaw marry Dale? Did she get a new house? Did she open a new business? Why did Mary sell her house? Did she continue working at the church? Did Missy ever get baptized? How did she adjust to high school? Did they ever go to California to visit Sheldon? Did he come home much as an undergraduate? Did Georgie ever finish high school?
