me anytime ben stiller's character interacted with greta gerwig: GET A JOB STAY AWAY FROM HER
It's kind of sad that I get excited when I notice a celebrity is a fellow left hander. These are minor details I feel right handers don't pick up on, but I always notice.
hoo boy that Greenberg fella pissed me off something awful but the Greta Gerwig character (innocent, deserves justice) had two lines that made this worth it:
1. “I was thinking this morning that I’ve been out of college now for as long as I was in. And nobody cares if I get up in the morning.” (#1 thought had at age 26)
2. “I’ve got to stop doing things just ’cause they feel good.” (#1 lesson learned at age 27)
Ben Stiller’s Roger Greenberg is fundamentally unlikeable. He’s like any jerk you meet at a party — he has an over-inflated sense of self, constantly complains about other people, and rarely apologizes for his mistakes.
But Noah Baumbach peels back Greenberg’s layers by providing unceasing access to his everyday life, making him much more sympathetic. There’s a million tiny moments that stack up over the course of Greenberg that could make you root for the titular character — With each passing minute, it’s more clear that he’s a lonely guy struggling with mental illness and intense self-doubt. He goes from being the arrogant guy that you easily dismiss to a tragic hero, without a particular turning point where he switches from…
I'm glad Noah Baumbach met Greta Gerwig when he did because now he no longer makes movies that drive me nuts.
"Sit on My Dick"
I'm surprised by the somewhat negative reception this movie has gotten. I found it to be quite funny. The scene at the restaurant gave me the biggest laugh I've had all year from a movie (the quote above is from that scene). Ben Stiller gives a very good performance. I never would have thought that he could play a great dick. Greenberg is definitely one of Noah Bamubach's better films.
the next time ben stiller ever thinks about being mean to greta i'm gonna slap him across the face 😤😡
