Former Orléans coach Bernard Casoni has submitted his application to coach the Algerian national team.
Algeria has officially been without a coach since Wednesday evening. Djamel Belmadi having been relieved of his duties, his succession is open. Many names of technicians are circulating. But no one has taken a public position. Nobody except Bernard Casoni.
The French coach, free since the end of his experience, spoke for Goal France. He admitted having submitted his application to coach the Greens, while denying the fact that he was approached by the FAF. “I have kept very good memories of Algeria. It would be an honor to coach the Greens. I have done things in the Maghreb, I know the locals. I have strengths that others don’t have.”
Casoni wants to live a great adventure
Casoni has never managed a national team during his career. But it’s a challenge that doesn’t put him off. Quite the contrary. “There is potential in Algeria. The pressure relating to this position? When you have gone through the MCA and the OM you are armed for everything (…) The selection is a human adventure. We want to experience strong moments. There is 1 great passion in Algeria.”
The 93 European champion then concluded by indicating that he followed the evolution of the Algerian selection under the leadership of Belmadi: “Algeria’s failure at the CAN? They won it in 2019 and it’s not easy to go back into battle. Maybe there were parameters that meant that… It’s not always obvious. But we must remain measured in our comments against Belmadi.”
