Bernardo Silva says £100k-a-week player is Man City’s key to success

Bernardo Silva has named one Manchester City player as being a key part of their success.

Having been at the Manchester club since 2017, the midfielder has played a huge part in City’s success under Pep Guardiola.

With 351 appearances for the Citizens under his belt, the 29-year-old has featured alongside 65 other players along the way.

Now though, with the end of his seventh season in sight, the Portuguese international has highlighted another figure in the City squad, who has spent a similar amount of time at the club as he has, as being particularly crucial to their successes.

In a recent YouTube short shared on the Premier League’s official channel, Silva was asked to build his ultimate five-a-side team filled with his City teammates.

When picking a goalkeeper, Silva had this to say after choosing Ederson.

He said: “The way we play, it’s so important to have a player that can save balls but also play from the back and help us with the build-up and be calm when it matters.”

Like Silva, the goalkeeper joined City during the 2017 summer transfer window from Benfica in a deal worth £35m.

Since then, the Brazilian has gone on to make 330 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, during which he’s kept 153 clean sheets and won numerous trophies including five Premier League titles.

Ederson is a key player for Pep Guardiola

Earlier this month, Pep Guardiola described the £100k-a-week goalkeeper as an “incredible” player and said that he sleeps very well knowing that City have him, Stefan Ortega and Scott Carson as their three senior shot-stoppers.

In terms of Ederson’s distribution, as Silva mentioned as being a key factor in the way City play, Guardiola said back in 2021 that the Brazilian’s ability with his feet is the best he’s ever seen in his managerial career.

Taking all of that into account, it’s understandable why the midfielder has picked Ederson to be in his ultimate City five-a-side team.
