- trekker183Newport Beach, CA145 contributionsSan Javier Mission was the second mission in BCS built by the Jesuits in 1699 and it's one of the best-preserved missions in Baja. The Mission is located about an hour drive from Loreto through the mountains and canyons. The mission is simple but very beautiful. The town is very picturesque and small (200 people). The town vendors provide stands with local wines you can taste. It's also a town with a large cultivation of olives, mangos and citrus.
There is also a 300-year-old olive tree you can visit down the path to the right of the mission. Donations are accepted. The adjacent museum is also worth visiting. Entrance fee is $20 pesos.
San Javier is definitely worth the drive. It's a tiny quaint lovely town with so much charm and beautiful historical sites. I highly recommend you visit.Written June 3, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I suppose in 10 years all the little houses will be bought out and high rise hotels will be built - so enjoy it now. I felt very safe walking everywhere and down little roads. If you turn left from the port and walk about 10 minutes, you get to the main road with all the restaurants and attractions. A totally laid back atmosphere with friendly people.Written December 1, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Donald B3 contributionsVery nice church with 6:00 pm Sunday service. Not in English but I don’t expect it to be since I am in Mexico. Very nice town with family safe boardwalk along the ocean and family friendly courtyard outside the church. Downtown nicely decorated for Christmas.Written December 25, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MCPOUSNrtdClackamas County, OR541 contributionsWe visit every year and enjoy the mission’s historical significance! They have finished most of the improvements to the courtyard and added some lighting to make a more impressive night viewing. This Church is central for a large segment of Loreto and there is always something going on. They have keep the insides of the Church retain much of the original elements and present a historical account of the missionaries, the local people, and how both dealt with each other, good and bad!Written August 5, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joseph NNew York City, NY56 contributionsThis is a beautiful, unspoiled beach on a spit of land out to a hilly point. You can camp on the sand. We went just for a few hours one afternoon in January. There is an admission fee of 200 pesos (usd 12). You can climb up the hill (it takes some bouldering) for spectacular views. The water is crystalline and torquise and birds dive for fish offshore. About a kilometer north is a great little rundown restaurant and bar where you can get some food and drink. Highly recommend.Written January 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Gretchen SKanab, UT2 contributionsSpent some quality time with Rick. Warm and welcoming. His connection with the natural world of Baja is evident by the enthusiasm, dedication and professional quality of his work.
