The women’s singles match in the 2024 Italian Open will be wrapped up on Saturday (May 18) after the battle of the top two players- Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. It will be the rematch of the Madrid Open final in which Swiatek secured her first title in the Spanish capital by overcoming the Belarusian in over three hours.
Sabalenka is searching for her second title of the season as she’s trophyless following her Australian Open victory. On the other hand, the World No.1 has already lifted three titles, at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Masters, and recently at the Madrid Open.

Iga Swiatek did not suffer much in the Italian capital as she secured all her victories before reaching the final in straight sets. The only challenge she faced was in the fourth round against former World No.1 Angelique Kerber.
Even though Swiatek is way ahead in her head-to-head clash with World No.3 Coco Gauff, their semifinal clash was no different from their previous encounters. Swiatek breezed past the American without much struggle with scores of 6-4, 6-3.
On the other hand, Aryna Sabalenka‘s time at the Foro Italico wasn’t smooth. In her first match, her opponent Katie Volynets pushed it to three sets. The same happened in the fourth round when the Belarusian locked horns with Elina Svitolina, against whom she was on the verge of losing.
Sabalenka also faced some challenges in the semifinal from America’s Danielle Collins in the first set but quickly recovered to win the match 7-5, 6-2.

Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have met 10 times, but the latter was able to win just three of those matches. All the Belarusian’s wins ended in three sets. They last faced at this year’s Madrid Open which was unlike the matches Swiatek played against Sabalenka as the thriller ended in favor of Swiatek 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(7).
Sabalenka is not a player to lose matches easily. She gives her all and always tries to have the upper hand. However, this time her match is against Swiatek, who is a dominant force on clay.
