Horrible sound quality

Prison performances are sort of a standard for blues singers, and it just doesn't get any better than this -- B.B. King playing his classics live at the San Quentin Correctional facility. I used to have this cassette, but I played it so much that it popped!
Here King is playing to a truly captive audience offering up such classics as "The Thrill is Gone," "Sweet 16," "In the Heat of the Night," and my personal favorite "Nobody Loves Me But My Mother." In the intro to that last selection King explains to the inmates that while the blues was not just about hard times, some of the tunes could be pretty depressing. "Some of it can be pretty down alley. Like I'm fixing to do right now. I'm going all the way down to the bottom." Yet he also encourages the audience to go on and boogie off some of the uptempo tracks. This is music from the heart, and you can just feel the soul of the artist. This is the blues -- unvarnished, straight up and raw -- served up by a master of the genre.
King broke a few strings on his faithful Lucille during this performance, but he never misses a note. His voice is still clear after all these years and he still knows how to spin a tale through song. He does a few audience participation numbers and banters smoothly with the crowd and the band. This is a fundamental recording, and an important part of my collection.

BB King and his seasoned band give prison inmates a stunning free concert that any fan would have gladly paid to see. Mr. King does not pander to the inmates with his personal concerns about their circumstances. Instead he delivers a great show without making judgments.

This is certainly one of B.B.'s great albums. The performance was very exuberant and lively.
The concert was well recorded, for the most part, although there are a few transitions between tracks that leaves a bit to be desired

Its BB King with a live audience. I feel like
BB King is at his best in front of a live audience.
Similar to another great BB King Album
"Live at Cook County Jail".

I've been diggin' The Boss since the early 50's, and after crankin' this for just the first time, I wish I had been a resident at "Q" while he was jammin' this Masterpiece.

Bought this cd to replace the vinyl copy that wore out. A good live set to a captive crowd who loved the music.

live at san quentin, a true masters lesson in blues from BB King

powerful disc, so full of energy, BB is so on top of his game and of course the inmates are really appreciative, having BB playing for them alone is a truly fine event. This disc reminds me of a very early BB disc called Live at the Cook County Jail, that was also a very good disc. I saw BB many years ago back in the mid seventies BB played just as independantly then as he does now, but that is the manner in which he plays, and he makes it work. As for the disc it certainly is representative of the masters work. Here he hits most of his all time hits, THE THRILL IS GONE, SWEET SIXTEEN, AINT NOBODIES BUSINESS, and so on.

Ein absolut mitreißendes und überzeugendes Liveerlebnis vom King Og The Blues!

In meiner Musiksammlung befinden sich bereits so einige Tonträger vom King Of The Blues. Live At The Regal ist sicherlich ein Monument seines musikalischen Wirkens. Bislang war Live At The Apollo mein Lieblingskonzert. Kings „The Thrill Is Gone“ nicht fehlen.
Kings Liveauftritt in San Quentin absolut nachvollziehen.
