It certainly appears they have gone. Website is now disabled. Sad. Been in business Since 1941. Would be nice to find out what the real story is
Very good question! We have been suscribers for 30+ years and they took payment for last month but we haven't received anything for over 6 wks....we've tried phoning...emailing...several times, and absolutely no response. And zero communication with customers if indeed they were going belly up.
can confirm: nothing by post or email since the 21 June 2023 and no response to phone calls or emails. Customer phone line message mentions they are on holiday until June 30, 2023.
Same here. Tried to call, email etc., nothing...very perplexing!!! Highly rated on Hulbert Financial Digest. Checked some employee names on LinkedIn without any luck. Have been subscribed since 1980s...sad.
Sad is right, loss of a great investment tool.
Yes, confirmed as well. No response to phone or email for several weeks now. I’m quite sure they have gone bankrupt as I know several people who subscribe and they have had the same experience.
The website is also down now. Sad to see that they are gone and without even saying goodbye!
Looks like they have taken everyone's money and disappeared.
I've looked up employee names on LinkedIn and tried their company directory but no one has picked up or answered my messages.
Me too, have been ditched by MPL. Tried to phone email message and fax with no response. Very ignorant of them
Can't understand why such reputable publisher (1941) would act in this way? Very puzzling. Is there anyone in Toronto that could bring this up with the police fraud unit? The subscribers list must quite long, and they have our bank account numbers! There must be someone we can file a formal complaint with? The way this was done is patently illegal. Is MPL Communications to blame?

Maybe their commercial landlord will know something...
The Globe and Mail has a reporter looking into it. Hopefully we can learn more in the near future.
What is the name of the G&M reporter? Thank you...
This is terrible news! Their newsletters gave solid advice. On the rare occasion, they would comment that a stock was a "bargain" or "cheap." Whenever I took a leap on those riskier stocks, they paid off nicely over then next few years. Come back IR!
For decades they were typically tops in Hubert's Financial Digest - review of newsletters and I liked the fact that they were no non-sense with "click here to find out the top 3 stocks we think will double in the next year" only to find a link to setup a free newsletter and more clicks. With most sites, newsletter, opinions - you always have that suspicion that they are pushing something for their own gain (aka Boiler Room atmosphere). I never got that from IR.
It is sad but in the present, the real problem is - what is next? I subscribe to the G&M and get good info there, but for a good newsletter that isn't just "that hot pick" - I don't know what else is out there? I was looking at TSINetwork.ca (The Successful Investor) - about $1K for all the newsletters run by Pat McKeough. I am sort of leaning toward a test run of a few months. Motley Fool could be another but - not sure if they are going to provide the straight talk.
For dividends in Canada - the list isn't that big and I don't need much advice there (G&M mostly paralleled IR). But it is the growth and perhaps the odd hot one that I am looking for and also the big picture. Plus interested in some US exposure - finding gems. (I don't want pure US newsletters as I don't have the capital to invest that much in USD; and it is horrible time now to do so with the dollar; any major future swing the other way will obliterate all your gains). I am also a member of Silicon Investor/Stockhouse but ... now you are following truly unknowable people.
Welcome any suggestions/opinions on possbile alternatives to IR - as close as we can get.
I'm also looking for a replacement source. Any luck yet? I've considered 5i research mostly...

Got this title from the Globe & Mail, Tor today. "A stalwart newsletter disappears, and subscribers wonder if investing will ever be so easy again"... Here is the page link. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/investing/personal-finance/household-finances/article-a-stalwart-newsletter-disappears-and-subscribers-wonder-if-investing/
Unfortunately, I am not a subscriber. Rumour has it there is a notice on their office door indicating their lease is cancelled for non-payment? Don't know if this is true. If anyone is living in Toronto you could check with their landlord. I am flabbergasted. How could a reputable investment letter behave this way? 82 years of service. George Armstrong must spinning in his grave. This is shameful. Also, remember they are have access to our bank accounts for their monthly withdrawal. Perhaps the reporter should be pressed into discovering more.
This is unfortunately incomplete reporting on what happened. Why did they shut down so suddenly and not notify any subscribers? This demands more digging.

Silent-Ice1812 Thank you for the link accessing the article. Sign of the times…? I am going to try the Globe & Mail, unfortunately it’s expensive.
Filed a complaint with the BBB Ontario Canada. We need assurances that they, MPL Comm., will not sell or use the subscriber's list in any manner. Remember it has personal, our payment information.
