The hotel is small but has quality. The lobby is clean and efficient and check in and out is fast and professional
The rooms are standard for this category of hotel. But the fittings and bathroom are top quality. There is nothing really to complain
The swimming pool and gym are outstanding. The facility is open 24 hours and is very luxurious. Highly recommended and a shame if one failed to use it
Special mention must be made of the staff. I needed DHL to clear a package of medicine for me through Customs and the challenge was to have it reach me before I checked-out the next day. The telephone Help Desk took ownership of my problem and convinced DHL of the importance of delivery the same day. Staff stayed on after her work shift to ensure delivery before leaving from her post. Calls were made to me personally to update me. And the moment I returned to the hotel, the concierge alerted me of the delivery before I even asked. I believe that this level of service is exceptional and commendable.
Recommendations of restaurants took into account individual quirks and taxis were instructed exactly where to send us. Again, this is exceptional service as the assistance was not even from Concierge but Reception

Can’t say enough positives about the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Hotel! It is a beautiful contemporary hotel in a great location with beautiful modern rooms/baths; and most importantly the most attentive caring staff and service we have ever encountered. We experienced lost luggage from our flight as well as having our cruise cancelled due to the Corona virus AFTER arriving in Seoul. Eddie and staff were on the phones keeping us updated on our lost luggage as well as helping us make last minute flights home. Heartfelt thanks to all. We loved the experience at the Marriott Executive Lounge and the rooftop Griffin Bar. Not sure we will ever be back in Korea, but if we are will,look forward to returning! Heartfelt thanks!

My wife and I decided to visit Korea this fall vacation, so we stayed at the JW Marriot Seoul Dongdaemun hotel. Our main objective was to celebrate a special occasion, so we chose the JW Marriot.
The hotel's location is central; the metro station is below the hotel, making it very convenient and practical. Traveling by subway in Korea is safe, easy, cheap, and worth it if you are a tourist. Due to this, it is a plus that the hotel has a direct entrance to the metro station. The hotel is very close to some main attractions, such as palaces, DDP, and Seoul tower. Very convenient as you can also walk and find many exciting things to do.
Due to health circumstances, we needed to have two bathrooms. Mister Choi was able to provide us with connecting rooms. The rooms assigned to us were spacious, with plenty of sunlight, two bathrooms, and two desks which was very convenient for carrying out office work; the main room had a bed and a comfortable mattress to sleep on. The stay at the hotel was enjoyable.
The attention they gave us was exemplary, one of the most friendly and pleasant we have had. Mr. Eddie Choi (assistant director of rooms) was in charge of helping us and guiding us. I have a severe allergy to nuts, which makes it very difficult for me to travel to Asian countries because their typical foods contain nuts in almost everything. However, Eddi organized a special menu for me and ensured everything was perfect. I am highly grateful for your hospitaliry and effort to make my visit pleasant and safe.
It is worth mentioning that the hotel has a buffet for breakfast which my wife was able to enjoy, with various dishes for all tastes. I recommend the hotel amenities such as the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and spa. It also has a lounge and a beautiful view of the mountains and the city.
I recommend this hotel for the quality of service, friendliness, location, buffet, and amenities. Thank you, JW Marriot, for making our stay an unforgettable memory.

My family stayed at another JW location in Seoul before arriving at JW Dongdaemun in Korea. You see, we had made a reservation for a family package at JW Dongdaemun where our kids would enjoy a visit to a kids cafe, admissions included in the package, of course. We expected the same professional staff and luxury experience we usually get at JW locations. I am what you call an Ambassador member with Bonvoy royalty program which I pationize over 100 nights per year.
The long and short of it, this was the most poorly informed package and hotel-stay I have ever been to for two reasons. No, it is not about not getting preferential treatment. Nor is it about usual perks that come with the Ambassador level.The following two reasons are why I would never go back or recommend the JW Dongdaemun Seoul.
1. We checked in at the front to get our keys and had a meal before proceeding to our room. The valet brought the bags to the front desk even though I inisited I carry them. The front desk saw how my bags were brought up AND YET out bags including my children's toy bag was left unattended for about an hour at the lobby. The staff at other locations either hold on to the bags or have them brought to our room upon valet arrival. But this time I came back an hour later, unsuspecyingly, and saw that my bags were left there for anyone and everyone to touch. Don't hotels pay attention to unattended bags if nothing else for security reasons and possible terror attemptsa? None of the staff at the front decided to do something about the bags. They didn't know, they said, the bags were there. I am still afraid to go through the entiretu of the bags kep for now in a storage for three weeks now because God know who might have put anything into our bags. Don't I and my luggage deserve to be treated with care upon arriving at such a hotel?
2. the Internet post said the age limit for kids cafe entrance was upto age 8. My older boy is 7 American age but 9 Korean age. The post was in English and didn't indicate at all that the limitation was in Korean age. I went for this package because of thr kids experience, but now the staff the hotel said one of the boys couldn't get in because he is "9". Are you kidding me? All the trouble to get there and we came home without the kids cafe experience. All the disappoint on my boys' faces were enough to have us never to go back there. There are 2 JW Marriotts in Seoul. I had many stays in JW Marriott Seoul (where everytime my experiences were full of joy) but it was my first stay in the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square. The Property is located in the central of historic northen part of Seoul.
The first welcoming hospitality of Front desk by Ms. Lucy was impressive and thankful even if I could not get Suite upgrade as a Titanium elite benefit and could not even experience the property's popular Swimming Pool and Korean buffet of Tavolo 24 due to the COVID-19 situation.
For dinner, I had LA ribs from Tavolo 24, along with Aglio e Olio pasta and Fish&Chips. The dishes, frankly speaking, were very disappointing and even frustrating. Especially for LA ribs, a quarter portion of it was fat. Last week I had same menu in Courtyard Marriott Times Square but I should say the taste of Courtyard was super better than that of JW. The Fish&Chips? Only Potato Chips were good. But thick fried Fish inside were rare and could not eat..(As matter of fact, it was the first time in my Marriott's dining history over hundreds..)
The room condition was good and staffs were kind and attentive. The hardware of executive lounge was also nice, especially I liked the terrace outside and its outview over the famous Dongdaemun. (It seems to be much better if I could try coffee or tea next time.)
May be, my unmet expectation and feeling of disappointment was due to COVID-19 situation because many properties and hospitality industry are sufferring serious financial problem should cut operating costs. So, I will have a chance to stay in this property again some day in next year.

At first we were given a terrible room (very small and a bit claustrophobic), after complaining to staff and serious considerations to leave premises, we were given a suite which made the world of a difference for our stay. We had view of the Heunginjimun gate and wall.
Excellent location with immediate access to subway and lots of shopping.
We also had the baby brunch which was fun, available at the time.

Arrived at the JW Marriott and from the moment we walked in the door , the service, welcome was perfect. Rooms are modern, quiet, and well equipped with everything one might need. Location is central, two major subway stations within walking distance, premium shopping close by, and even an English speaking tourist centre only 3 minutes walk away. Korea isn’t blessed with great English speaking skills but at the JW all the staff are excellent. The gym is very good and the pool is out of this world. The club lounge is excellent from breakfast to dinner. Plenty of options, in fact some of the serves for dinner were so good, we couldn’t think about external restaurants instead. Every night the menu changed, small degustation serves celebrated all the lovely Korean cuisine options. We will certainly return to this perfect hotel.

This is a relatively large, very comfortable hotel with generally impressive, excellent staff. The rooms I have seen are all quite spacious, and very clean. But I have to say I was disappointed on 1 June (a public holiday) when the hotel seemed overwhelmed by the numbers of guests. I was asked to wait 40 minutes at breakfast, and my room was not cleaned even though I was out nearly the whole day and all evening. This was not really acceptable, and I was offered no discount for my unseemly scramble for a take-away breakfast. Surely the guest numbers on a public holiday could have been anticipated? A hotel of this class should have made special arrangements, as indeed I have seen at other hotels in Korea and around the world.

We stayed several weeks the Hotel. The hotel is located quite central to everything and the bus stops and public transportation were very accessible. However, the hotel is a little aged and the staff were well trained. During the first week of stay the breakfast was set during a standard time period for a 5-star hotel from 6:30 to 10 am during the weekdays, and 6:30 to 10:30 during the weekend. However, after a week the breakfast time is cut to 9 am for the entire week without any reasonable explanation. We asked the GM and hospitality staff for a reason but they were only able to tell us that this is their new policy and at first, they offered us take away tray for the kids who often slept late but after a day they refused to provide us with this extra provision. This is pretty unbecoming of a 5-star standard for any hotel yet alone JW Marriott. This surely is not a JW Marriott general policy and is probably due to Ownership request and there can be no other reason other than to cut cost.
In addition, the executive lounge only offers basic water, coffee, soda, and a few cookies. There are no compliments other than two pieces of chocolate daily.

Executive Lounge is on a first-come, first-served basis. If a certain number of people come in, we will close without receiving any more people. There is no lounge cancellation. They receive more money for executive packages, but the lounge benefits are called special services, so only a limited number of people are accepted. This is a scam. Breakfast closes at 9 a.m., so if you're late, it's closed. It wasn't a good experience because it was a hotel full of morale.
