Larry Johnson is one of the three secondary protagonists (alongside Ashley Campbell and Todd Morrison), as well as a playable character, of the 2016 video game Sally Face.

Larry is the son of the late Jim Johnson and Lisa Johnson, as well as the stepson of Henry Fisher and the stepbrother of Sal Fisher, his best friend. He is also friends with Ashley, Todd, and Neil in Nockfell High.

Throughout the series, Larry helps Sal in his endeavour to investigate the strange events that transpired within Addison Apartments, as well as the entirety of the American town of Nockfell, where he would soon be involved in uncovering the Cult's stranglehold of the town, as well as their hidden involvement of spreading the Plague of Shadows on Earth through the Red-Eyed Demon.

He later committed suicide when the infection took hold of him, and after Sal's execution he decided to help Ashley and Sal, in the quest to stop the Devouers of God, as well as the Red-Eyed Demon and the Endless One, once and for all.

Appearance[]

Larry had tan skin colour with a golden undertone and long, dark brown hair. Additionally, he possessed brown eyes that, barring periods of intense emotion, were constantly in a neutral condition. He had a gap in his teeth and a mole under his right eye. He frequently appeared wearing a blue pair of pants with a chain on the left side, a light-mid beige shirt with the "SF" badge on it, and dark brown shoes. He appeared in "The Wretched" wearing a red hoodie outside.

Adult[]

He had a beard and a more muscular build as an adult. He was sporting the same beige Sanity's Fall shirt as he did as a teenager, but with a slightly different logo.

Ghost[]

His clothing was ripped and damaged. His veins could be seen through his "skin," and his eyes had practically become milky white from glazed overness. His spirit had gotten older from traversing the abyss; his beard had gotten unusually long, and he was dressed in a brown robe with a pointed hood, giving him a wizardly look. The Deadstone was also hung around his neck.

Personality[]

Larry may be both independent and relaxed. Although he gives the impression of getting along with others effortlessly, he isn't hesitant to speak up for his convictions. He also seems to have strong feelings for his pals (an example being him threatening to hurt others to protect Sal).

Background[]

Past[]

Larry Johnson is Jim and Lisa Johnson's firstborn child and only son prior to the events of the game. He shared a love of heavy metal with his father and had a reasonably charmed and tranquil existence at Addison Apartments. He also had a higher than normal level of interest.

After playing with firecrackers against his parents' wishes and accidently killing Mrs. Gibson's pet rabbit, Larry's life took a turn. The Red-Eyed Demon approached the youngster the same night and touched him. Then, things deteriorated. The following day, his father vanished without a trace, the firecracker incident landed him in jail for two weeks, causing him to miss enough school to enrol in summer school, and his bike was stolen. Larry started to feel like he was cursed after this string of bad things happened.

In the hope that his father might one day come back, Larry then took everything he had been given and concealed it from his mother in his treehouse.

Sal Fisher arrived as he was finishing up cleaning Sandy Sanderson's bathroom when Charley Mansfield broke down the door and cut the woman's throat. Larry waited for the killer to leave before running to his basement room out of sheer terror.

Sally Face[]

Sal and Larry quickly become friends when Sal's mother introduces them. They connect over art and Sanity's Fall. Larry confides in Sal what he saw after Sanderson's murder is mentioned. Sal offers his assistance, and the two come up with a strategy to imprison Charley.

To get the police officer and detective out of Room 403 so Sal may enter, Larry impersonates a robbery. Larry summons Sal back to the basement after he notices a gap between two Glitter Ponies. Sal receives the bag, and Larry is then faced with his sinister secret. Since they had just met, Larry politely declines to tell Sal anything.

A few months after Charley Mansfield's incarceration, Larry listens sympathetically to Sal's dreams and believes he can trust Sal to tell the truth about his "curse." Despite his fatigue, Larry accepts Sal's offer to assist in lifting Larry's curse.

Larry enters and remains to keep an eye on his mother. Sal begs Larry to go with him to Room 504's bathroom after Lisa nods off from the cold medicine so they may encounter Megan Holmes' ghost. Larry agrees, but when Megan doesn't show up, he suggests Todd Morrison, a local genius and supernaturalist, to Sal.

Sal consults Todd before asking Larry for his police scanner antenna. He gives it up reluctantly.

Larry returns to Room 504 with Sal once the Super Gear Boy is finished and Megan's Necklace has been found. This time, Megan shows up much to Larry's surprise; his shock grows as he finds that Megan's father, Luke Holmes, was a friend of his father's. Sal and Larry concur that more research should be done on the room after the Red-Eyes frighten Megan away. After guiding Sal to David's Room 302 for a crowbar, Larry goes back to his room.

When Sal shows him his father's "computer chip," he remarks that it seems familiar, but he doesn't recognise or remember it when it transforms into a Rubix Cube.

Larry went to Todd to get a gadget meant to fend off evil spirits, a device he subsequently used on Red-Eyes before it could attack Sal, as Sal looked through the hole in Room 504. Larry eventually realised that Red-Eyes had existed before his birth and that his father had abandoned his wife and children rather than just disappearing.

Sal refuses Larry's suggestion to exact revenge on school bully Travis Phelps when he first runs into Sal and Ashley Campbell.

On Bologna Day, Larry noticed that the lunch meat tasted funnier than usual and promised to assist Sal in determining where the lunch meat came from. He and Sal questioned the lunch lady Kim Yazzie about the history of the bologna, but she rudely refused to answer, leading them to look for another solution in Kim's archives.

While Larry sneaked into the Teacher's Lounge to photograph Kim's file, Sal served as a diversion. Larry finished his assignment and went to the laboratory to meet Todd and Ashley.

Later, Larry aids Sal in breaking into Mrs. Packerton's desk to search for information on the bologna. Sal pulls out a component like Jim Johnson's puzzle box.

Sal enlists Larry's assistance to get into Packerton's apartment and open the refrigerator where they discover a goat's severed head, making Larry happy that his assumption that the bologna was goat flesh was correct.

Sal hears Mr. Packerton's soul pleading to be put to death when he first encounters him when he is in a vegetative condition. If Sal would not do this, Larry will do it. Sal and Larry are forced to hide as they hear someone enter the room, with the former trying to protect the latter. However, Ashley was the visitor. Larry discovered the keychain for the second locked room during their brief spell of hiding.

Even though Larry throws up twice, he is relieved that the mystery of the bologna's origin has been resolved when the blood-stained footlocker refrigerator is unlocked and the deboned flesh of the missing kids from Nocksfell High is revealed.

Ashley finds (and tumbles down) a concealed garbage chute behind a picture of a farm before they could leave. After being startled into a frenzy, Larry quickly departs with Sal to find Todd and head to the basement.

Sal and Larry split up after the latter moved home with Todd and his partner Neil, but they remained in touch, particularly after Henry, Sal's father, became engaged to Lisa, creating the two step-brothers.

The cult went into seclusion for a few more years during which time there was little activity. When the ghosts of the Addison Apartments abruptly disappeared, everything went back to being abnormal. Larry was prepared to move in with Sal, Todd, and Neil at that time, but the incident drove him to ask Fisher's assistance in looking into his former residence.

Sal went on a date with Ashley Campbell while the two parted ways after searching the temple of the Devourers of God and finding nothing. Red-Eyes was summoned back into the physical plane of reality by the cult while Sal was away in order to infect the occupants of the apartment building, including Larry.

Larry left Sal a suicide note at the foot of the treehouse and used an alcohol bottle with unknown contents to commit suicide since he did not want to submit to the demon. In the years to follow, his deeds would bind him inextricably to the treehouse.

The Red-Eyes capsule fell into the flats and proceeded to infect its occupants until Sal Fisher went back to the building and discovered the suicide note. By weakening the capsule's defences and closing the anomaly hotspots, Larry helped Sal on the spiritual realm free the population from Red-Eyes' control.

The stepbrothers' attempts, however, were in vain. Red-Eyes kept hold of the people even after Sal killed the Endless One, ordering their death to stop it from spreading. Larry was unable to stop Sal from killing everyone, including his mother and stepfather. He could only watch in terror.

Whilst Sal was falsely executed by the authorities, Larry's body has still not been recovered. The Cult kidnapped Todd and imprisoned him within the chapel.

Larry sought Ash for assistance by setting the treehouse on fire to supposedly liberate him from his position of death so that she might aid her more effectively after an unsuccessful rescue effort with Neil. Unfortunately, his ghost was trapped in the temple's central chamber and lost in the emptiness, destined to roam aimlessly for days.

In the chamber, he at last came face to face with Sal's ghost. They hugged warmly before he helped Sal and Ash destroy the Devour of Gods and save Todd by using the amulet to halt Endless and apply pressure on the monster. The pals enjoyed a brief reunion following the fight, during which Larry thanked them for their company and then vanished without a trace.

Trivia[]

  • In terms of chronology, Larry is the first anyone outside of Sal's biological family to see Sal's face without a prosthesis, and he is aware of Sal's fate.
