A trio of hunters in the Louisiana bayous capture a monster called the Swamp Thing. They take it to New Orleans where (naturally) they display it in a strip joint. When the monster's favorite stripper gets into a fight with another stripper, he breaks loose and starts killing.

Ormond predecessor of Showgirls, set in the New Orleans French district, instead of in Vegas. It is very sleazy for an Ormond production. That means, not sleazy at all. Showgirls evolves to a revengeamatic. This one to a creature feature. They throw in a swamp thing, played by a country singer named Sleepy LaBeef. The swamp thing beats a man to dead with his own arm.
This lumpy, misshapen movie from Ron & June Ormond right before their "Christian period" has it all: singers, dancers, stripteasers, gangland melodrama, a cheap monster, a harmonica solo, and the director himself wearing a fake moustache that makes him look like George C. Scott in that one scene from Hardcore.
Ron Ormond and his wife had already crashed their plane and found God by the time they made THE EXOTIC ONES, but that didn't stop them from trying to jump on the BLOOD FEAST rip-off train with a movie (in which they star as sleazy club owners!) that's 5% violent monster movie (with the lame looking creature played by Sleepy LaBeef), and 95% variety revue filled with giant novelty sized harmonicas and depressing fire dancing.

This allows to showcase bikini-clad girls, monsters, beehives, more bikini-clad girls, drunks, strippers, gangsters, killer make-up, cat fights and even more bikini-clad girls.

Despite having the most salacious title and premise of his pre-savior period, The Exotic Ones is the most bored I've been with a Ron Ormond film from Indicator's From Hollywood to Heaven set. Perhaps it's a matter of setting my expectations too high, but when the synopsis promises a Swamp Thing murdering strippers in New Orleans, it isn't unreasonable when that turns out to be one stripper killed by a caveman in the last five minutes. The fact is, most of this film is done in the style of a musical revue with striptease acts that weirdly get more clothed from one number to the next. There's some sort of crime ring subplot that never really factors into the plot in any significant way, and the only time anything of interest occurred was when Swamp Man ripped a poacher's arm off and beat him to death with it.
Sometimes they say there's a movie about everything and you think, "Oh yeah? Is there a movie about mobsters trapping a swamp beast to put him in their burlesque show in the French Quarter?" And the answer is, yes, yes, there is.
From the creative team of Ron and June Ormond, who also happen to both appear in leading roles here, comes a lost exploitation gem that spans from New Orleans, Louisiana to the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia in spinning a wild drive-in friendly yarn about exotic dancers and a swamp thing that'd have Berni Wrightson breaking all his pencils at a mere glance. H.G. Lewis-esque gore and go-go gals going gaga are just some of the goodies the Ormonds have on tap for you in this production, which is chock full o' Ormonds like a Mormon church full of Osmonds.

Even after his plane crash that turned him into a God fearing Christian, Ron still managed to pump this bad boy out. While it's not as graphic as some of its contemporaries, it's got all the staples of some classic exploitation: strippers, chicken eating geeks( or in this case, swamp people), murder, vague crime syndicates, and a good ole fashioned chick fight.
A recurring motif of Ron's is some sort of "show" going on while the plot takes place loosely around it. With Forty Acre Fued, it was that hillbilly concert.
