Whitney Houston has been gone for more than a decade, but her music has not faded from the public consciousness. There’s a good chance that the beloved singer’s hits will never vanish completely–and that’s evidenced by her continued presence on a number of charts.
This week, the powerhouse vocalist’s I Will Always Love You - The Best Of compilation reaches a special milestone. The set has now lived on the U.K. albums chart for 150 weeks. That’s not necessarily a very rare number for any collection to make it to, but it’s one that Houston has only seen once before in her career.
Another one of Houston’s compilations of her most successful singles still ranks as her longest-charting title in the U.K. The Ultimate Collection has spent 386 weeks on the ranking of the most-consumed full-lengths and EPs in that nation.
The Ultimate Collection was released in 2007, while Houston was still alive. I Will Always Love You, however, dropped less than a year after her passing. It seems that in the decade-plus since then, the latter title has become the more popular and heavily-consumed compilation, as it regularly charts, while others do not.
This week, I Will Always Love You is actually on the rise in the U.K. The compilation lifts from No. 59 to No. 53 on the chart. In the past, it’s climbed as high as No. 13.
I Will Always Love You is one of Houston’s four projects that have spent triple-digit weeks on the U.K. albums chart. Behind the two aforementioned compilations, her first two proper albums have also managed the showing. Her self-titled debut, which made her a global star, has racked up 119 weeks somewhere on the U.K. albums chart. Her follow-up, which was named simply Whitney, is just over that threshold, as it’s earned 102 stays on the list.
