Growing up, most of us go through several career choices that keep changing till we find our calling. This process is fun, tiring and time taking. But the end result is always a fulfilling experience. Anupamaa actor Madalsa Sharma, talks about how confused she was as a teenager, what made her take up acting and her experiences till now.
“Well, ever since I was a little girl, I think maybe I was like two or three years old, I decided I wanted to be an actress. My mom (Sheela Sharma) is an actress herself, my father is a filmmaker, director, producer and a writer. We also have our own production houses. So I have seen this happening all my life. I've been on film sets as a child, be it with my father or my mom. I used to go to see mom shoot and give her company. Sometimes, I used to travel with her. So this is all I have seen all my growing years. Slowly, I also developed passion for this art form and after I grew up, I said one day I'm gonna be exactly like my mother, become an actress like her, because I've seen her devotion, dedication, hard work, and the magic she creates on screen is something that has always inspired me. And my parents, obviously, encouraged me as well as groomed me accordingly,” she says.
So, coming into this profession was an easy choice for Madalsa. “As I said, my parents have always been very supportive and encouraging because they saw that spark in me. It was not like I had some kind of pressure from my parents to follow their path or something. This career choice was very easy for me to make because I have grown up amid all this. In fact in school, I used to take part in every drama competition and always came first in fancy dress contests. I did well in elocution, singing and even dancing. So my parents accepted my decision very gracefully,” she adds.
During the initial stage of his career, the right opportunities matter a lot. Agreeing, Madalsa also emphasises on making the right choices because that's the base of one’s career.
“But honestly, I don't believe in the fact. Obviously in the initial days everybody wants to come with a bang and everything. But you need to know how and where you want to start off with. I was in my 10th grade, barely 16 years old, when I did my acting course from Kishore Namit Kapoor. I used to go to school in the morning, come back home in the afternoon, go for tuitions and then go for my acting course. That was my entire schedule. And I had a plan. I mean, I knew that I'm going to start acting and I already had a platform,” she adds.

Madalsa wanted to start off with the South Indian film industry. “I was almost 17 or 18 when I starred in my first Telugu film, Fitting Master, followed by another titled Aalasyam Amrutam. I've worked down south and have also worked with the best of the production houses, actors, technicians, and everything. And I'm not seeing that I got lucky, but I was focused since my growing years and it was difficult both as a student and professional. Thankfully my focus, discipline and dedication helped me move ahead,” she says.
