Mortal Kombat 2 star Max Huang confirms that the sequel has now wrapped filming by sharing cast celebration pohots. Based on the hit video game franchise, the most recent Mortal Kombat movie was released in 2021. The upcoming sequel, which entered production last year, is set to see Simon McQuoid return to the director's chair, following both new and returning characters alike in another bloody, action-packed outing.

Now, as the Mortal Kombat 2 release date remains unannounced, Huang, who plays Kung Lao, takes to Instagram to confirm that filming on the sequel has officially wrapped. Check out Huang's post below:

The carousel of images feature Huang with a variety of figures involved in bringing the sequel to life, including a number of cast members. Some of the actors pictured include Adeline Rudolph, Ana Thu Nguyen, CJ. Bloomfield, Lewis Tan, and Martyn Ford.

What To Expect From Mortal Kombat 2

Lewis Tan as Cole Young in the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie

While no official story synopsis has been revealed for the sequel just yet, the ending to Mortal Kombat provides some indication of what might be to come. The film ends with Cole Young (Tan) and Hanzo Hasashi (Kiroyuki Sanada) defeating Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), and Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) subsequently sending his current roster of champions off to recruit new fighters for a coming tournament. The final moments of the film see Cole heading off to find martial arts actor Johnny Cage in L.A., providing a big setup for events to come.

Mortal Kombat (2021) is currently available to stream on Max.

Karl Urban is confirmed to be playing Cage as part of the impressive Mortal Kombat 2 cast, though though he isn't present in any of the images above. Other new and returning actors confirmed to be a part of the sequel include: Sanada as Hanzo, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Tan as Cole, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Taslim as Sub-Zero, Rudolph as Kitana, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Asana as Raiden, and Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, among others.

Although Sub-Zero died during the vents of Mortal Kombat, characters returning from the dead is a staple of the franchise's larger universe.

It's currently unclear what the budget for Mortal Kombat 2 is, but the 2021 movie featured some impressive action and effects, and was made for the relatively modest sum of $55 million. The film became a big hit for the Max streaming service, so it's likely that the sequel will have a budget equal to or greater than the original. Despite there being few story details available, the first film and return of McQuoid to the director's chair suggest that Mortal Kombat 2 will once again feature some bone-crunching fatalities.
