What travelers are saying
- allifromWIWest Bend, WI261 contributionsThis was a great tour! We went in fall when the tours are a full hour instead of 1/2 hour. I would definitely recommend that, if you have a choice. Our tour guide had a lot of time to tell a lot of great stories about the families who owned the house and answer questions about the building, the furniture and the restoration. So much beauty & great history!Written 19 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- deward070882Johnstown, CO702 contributionsReally cool cemetery. The sculpture for wild bill is impressive. Calamity Jane’s grave is mediocre in comparison. Very cool to see the graves of such big characters.Written 29 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - allifromWIWest Bend, WI261 contributionsThis is a nice gravel trail with amazing views. We started at the Rochford trailhead and went south, a little past the two tunnels that are just south of the Mistic trailhead. The scenery was truly incredible and the tunnels were pretty cool. Beware that while it’s only a slight (the trail maps say no more than 4%) grade, it’s almost all downhill when you head south, so when you head back, it’s almost all uphill. It was a great workout with some great views.Written 19 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- scubasiren54South Carolina98 contributionsJJ was our speaker, a Lakota Indian and offered great history and facts on the bison. The sculpture outside is magnificent. The movie, narrated by Costner was good but poor quality audio and outdated TV. Still this is a personal project of Costner’s and funded by him as they can’t be making money. Thank you Kevin Costner for reminding us of the people and land before us! Loved this place.Written 6 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Stephanie B2 contributionsWe toured the mine with extended family and loved it. There were 20 of us total, and we all went on the same tour. The guide was so personable, funny, and easy going, that it made the tour fun for both kids and adults. They covered the history of the mine itself, along with the history of mining in the area. Our kids panned for gold and loved it (ages 9 and 5).Written 27 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David SMinneapolis, MN8 contributionsMy family and I had never been to Deadwood before and thought it would be a fun trip, while learning a little history. Me and my wife and 9 year old daughter spent about 4 hours or so in Deadwood's historic area. We rode the stagecoach, which was crammed about 8 people, but interesting. You want a relatively uncomfortable authentic stagecoach ride, do it.
We saw a couple of the Deadwood Alive shows and it was fun. we were right up front so it was easy to hear and see. We were there in July, so it was warm, but not intolerable. High 80's. The only thing I was not prepared for was the gunfight. Even though I knew it was coming, I thought, no way they will use rounds that have the same sound. No, they did. My ears rang for hours after! Whoops. I had my earplugs and thought...I don't need them. So just a heads up.
The only thing that prevented me from giving 5 stars were the souvenir shops. Most of them were fine and sure we bought a couple things. But a couple stores were a little too into the political humor. Sure whatever har har, but I really like my vacations to be politics free as much as possible. Hard to avoid being neutral these days. But, I had to stop my wife from confronting one store owner for a very derogatory racist t-shirt about the vice president. I told her, just imagine you are in a different country. I later learned and talking with locals that Deadwood has become a sort of epicenter for skinheads. So there's that.
Otherwise, great fun! Everyone was friendly, had a great conversation about Wild Bill in the Wild Bill Bar.Written 6 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The days of 76 museum is one of the finest I have seen with its teaching about the old ways and about how this country was formed. I was very impressed with the artifacts, the slew of wagons and the history in this building. I only wish there were more of these spread out across America for people to be re-educated about American history.Written 5 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mitzi TBristol, IN7 contributionsI had heard that Kevin Cosner does/did own this place. Has the high class feeling of the cowboy days. Very well kept. GREAT bartenders.
Disadvantages Sportsbook is a single kiosk. Limited tables games. After playing a table game. Coming down the stairs I fell on the bottom step. I looked around. The only person that notice was a young man working at the cage. He said that happen frequently. I asked him and he said yes he thinks the bottoms step is double inches difference. Long story short.

There are some really nice details on this layout so if you are a train buff and have kids it would be a great place to take the kiddos.Written 14 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Me and Her After KidsLone Tree, CO361 contributionsIn the Black Hills for our 32nd anniversary and we played at every casino Deadwood had to offer. I wished I could say we hit it big, but breaking even is good enough. Every place we went into was clean and smoke free and the Silverado was no exception.Written 30 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MichaelBillings, MT1 contributionWe usually stay at one of the hotels at Cadillac Jacks, but wanted something a little more walkable to most of Deadwoods main drag on this visit, so we chose the Deadwood Mountain Grand. Very happy with our choice. Room was clean and comfortable and it was great having a small deck that overlooked the city courthouse, downtown Deadwood and Mount Moriah. It was my birthday weekend and we received a complimentary bottle of not-horribly-cheap sparkling wine upon check-in. An appreciated gesture.
We stayed Friday - Monday and we heard very little noise during our stay. Granted, it was off-season, but the front desk told us they were pretty full with a convention. We rarely ran into other guests in our hallway on the 2nd floor, nor in the lobby. Sometimes casino hotels can be loud and this was not the case. Slept great every night with minimal banging, slamming doors or loud guests. Bed comfort is subjective. I thought the mattress was great, my wife didn't. No complaints on the pillows.
On-site food: We had dinner one night and breakfast the next day at Six Strings. Service was quick and we thought the food was good and fairly priced. The menu isn't fancy (it's tough to find "fine dining" in Deadwood) but offered plenty of options. The bar has awesome Bloody Mary's. Seriously, try one... or five.
Casino: Fast drink service while playing slots or the tables. They have a couple of blackjack tables (3:2, $10 min) a couple of poker tables, and a craps table. I don't recall seeing a roulette wheel, but perhaps there is and I didn't notice. Lots of popular slots. Sports betting is now legal in SD and their sports book is pretty nice for a little mountain town in the Black Hills.
Parking: I see reviews complaining about finding the entrance and unloading. It's honestly really easy. During our visit there was no valet (perhaps there is in the summer?), but no worries. Just pull up, grab a bellhop cart, and park in the parking garage steps from the front door. Yes, you do walk thru a casino and take an elevator to get to the hotel desk, but it's only like 100 feet. It's not like you have to wander thru a giant Vegas casino to get to your room and it's not confusing in the least. There is a mini fridge, microwave and mini Kuerig in the room. The coffee shop/gift shop in the casino offers better brew.
Cons: Some of the furniture in our room was showing a little age, with nicks/scuffs in some of the woodwork.
We'll definitely consider visiting this property on future visits. A combo of great location, decent food, fun bar/drinks and easy walking to other attractions make it a great option.Written 13 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
