El Dorado Seaside Palms is celebrated for its superb location, nestled close to nature and offering tranquil beach spots, as well as a festive atmosphere appreciated by many guests. Travelers commend the resort for its spotless environment and exceptional amenities, including diverse activities and high-quality dining options. Although the rooms are clean, some guests have noted they can appear dated and may not meet expectations set by online images. Service is generally well-regarded, with a friendly staff, though some visitors mention occasional service delays. However, the value proposition is somewhat tarnished by unexpected extra fees and booking complications.

We just returned and had a fantastic time. This is our first resort so don't really have anything to compare it to. We found this resort fantastic but not without fault. I do believe it is a 4 to 5 star though.
The rooms were fantastic. large king size bed and very comfortable. I have a bad back and use a temperpedic mattress at home. I had no problems with this mattress and slept great every night. The room was very large and had a jacuzzi in it. I did find the tile floors a little slippery when wet so be careful.
There is not a lot of nightlife around. The staff put on a show every night which is great but if your looking for a place to party this is not it. If your looking for a nice quiet relaxing place this is where to go. The outside bar would have about 30 to 40 guests every night and everybody would talk and mingle with each other.
The food was fantastic. We love the idea of NO reservations. Its first come first served. After talking with guests from other resorts I will only book a resort that has this feature. The longest we waited for a table was 15 minutes one night and only because we wanted a table for 6. According to staff they are also building a new steak house for next year.
The sand is not the best. We didn't need shoes for walking on it but I would highly recommend then if your walking out into the water. Very sharp rocks. There were also some of the black sand bags out in the water everybody is talking about but they did not present a problem. I was talking to staff and they are filling in the entire area right out to the bags with new sand for next year.
Snorkeling right off the beach is fantastic. I highly recommend taking the free 1 hour tour with the resort as it is tricky getting out to the coral. The water is very shallow and rocky.
If you want to try it alone you need to go to the far right of the resort and follow the rock wall out. There is a deep channel you can swim through.
If you take a taxi use pesos. They rip you off on exchange, We needed a van for 6 to go to
XelHa. It was 460 pesos or $45 USD I asked at the desk how much it would cost to buy 460 pesos and they told me $36 US. The driver was making $9 on the exchange.
You can exchange your money into pesos right at the front desk. Its cheaper to use pesos and not hard to figure out. If your from Canada its approx 10 to 1 , so an item that is 400 pesos is about $40 CDN.
Now Xelha versus Xcaret. We tried them both with another couple and we all agree that XelHa is a far better place then Xcaret. At Xel-Ha you can snorkel or tube down a long natural river and it is fantastic. The water is warm and there are tons of fish to see.
There is also a big lagoon to snorkel in that is very calm.
We found Xcaret disappointing. They has a river you can snorkel down but don't waste your time. It is man made and you don't see anything except a few small fish at the end. Total waste of time. Xcaret did have a night show that was great though.
My only big complaint with this resort would be my toilet. I would push the handle and a little water would trickle into the bowl. I called to have it fixed and it worked for a few flushes and quit again. I had them fix it 3 times and it still wasn't working right. I actually flushed it several times by filling up a bucket in the shower and dumping it into the bowl. Nobody else I talked to was having any trouble so I assume mine was just an isolated problem. I would not let this small problem deter me from returning to this resort.
They also have a exotic club they try to get you to join. It is similar to a time share. If you go to a meeting be warned they are VERY pushy salespeople. They spent 2 hours trying to sell me one. I believe its a rip off but decided to sit through the presentation to get the $150 they offer. I used this to give my wife a massage and facial on the beach.
Over all I don't know if we will return to this resort. I would not hesitate to stay here again but because we have never stayed anywhere else we might try another resort to see something different. We did love the area and it is fantastic if you like to snorkel.
For a beginner I recommend XelHa. My wife can only swim a few feet and has never snorkeled before this tri and she had a great time with no problems at all there.
I hope this information can help. I know I used trip adviser to plan my trip and relied heavily on these reviews.

Just returned from a week at EDSS and have nothing but possitive things to say.
The staff are very friendly and very helpfull, the rooms are beautiful and we experienced none of the problems expressed in other reviews.
The food was the best I've had in any of my previous visits to Mexico.
The only negitive thing is the beach, while it is beautiful it offers no real swimming areas, being a beach couple we spent our entire week chillin and relaxing on the beach.
While we had to get to the beach early to get a spot it was terrible to see how many people just come down and throw down a book and a couple of towels and don't return to use them for hours, we have seen some bed reserved at 6 am and not used till after lunch, the resort has to address this issue some way as lots of guests were upset.
That being said our week on the beach was wonderful, we were never without a drink thanks to the best beach server that I've ever seen, if you are one the south end of the beach keep a lookout for Lucy she will never let your drink run dry and she always has a big smile on her face.
We ate at all the restaurants and each one was very good, even tried sushi and loved it.
Entertainment was ok nothing great but entertaining, the fire show being the best of the week.
If you are a couple looking for a relaxing and romantic place to reconnect this is a place to go.

My husband and I headed to Seaside Suites for our honeymoon in September 2008. I am a big review reader and had read literally thousands of reviews on different resorts before picking this one. I did read some negative ones about Seaside Suites, but after my time there I can only imagine those were either people impossible to please or they encountered very isolated problems. My husband and I have traveled quite a bit, even lived in Europe for a time and did a lot of traveling there. I can honestly say this was one of the most relaxing, romantic vacations we've ever had. And what better for a honeymoon, right? The staff and service was great from day one.

ROOM: We stayed in a swim-up suite in building #41. The room was great, cleaned promptly and very well every day. The bed was comfortable, my only suggestion would be to get a room closer to the swim-up bar. Maybe building 40 or 39. We had requested through our travel agent to be in a room in buildings 38-41, and as you can see that request was granted.

FOOD/DRINKS: It was excellent. Our favorite restaurant was Vida. All the meals there were great and the best server we had during the whole trip was at that restaurant, although I can't remember his name. The eggs benedict with salmon was great. Every kind of cerviche they had there was great. The bar there was excellent. We also loved Klay Talay, the Asian restaurant. Sit outside if the weather's nice and it's not windy. We ate at Arrecifes several times for breakfast and lunch. It's a very close location to the beach. It had a buffet but we always ordered off the menu and the food was good. The swing bar by the beach was great and the bartenders there made very excellent drinks and were very nice. We did do the candlelit dinner on the beach because it was included in our honeymoon package. If it's included for you, do it. I would have been disappointed if I had paid for it. The service was impeccable, but the fondue was just ok. (I will say I'm not the biggest fondue fan though). It was also windy and the windbreaker around your table keeps you from seeing the beach and ocean. Next time I would skip it and eat at Vida. I have seen some comments complaining about the house wine. I am a big wine drinker and for what it was, I thought the house wine was just fine. I ordered it several times. Room service was also quick and good but a very limited menu.

BEACH: Yes, it is not the beach you would find in the Carribean and maybe even some other Mexican resorts. But it never bothered us once. Nor did the "whales" in the water to help repair the beach. There was enough beach for us to walk along and we went into the water many times. We also took a nice long walk off the property down the public beach to the south (I think). On the public beach there was some trash that had washed ashore, but the long walk was still nice. I am NOT an early riser and did not make my husband become one, and we still found a beach bed almost every day. If not, we laid on a chair. Yes, some people are rude and leave their book or towel on a bed all day long and never use it, but we didn't let that bother us. We also snorkeled off the beach. It was my husband's first time snorkeling and he loved it.

EXCURSIONS: We did go into Playa del Carmen one day by taxi. Yes, it is a pricey taxi trip and there wasn't much to see or do in Playa del Carmen. I just wanted to go into town for some souveniers. There are a lot of those there. But other than that, I wouldn't waste your money. Stay on the beach for those extra hours. We also did an adventure tour through All tour native. We booked it through the desk in the main lobby. IT WAS AWESOME! We did the tour to the Coba ruins which also included canoeing, ziplining, lunch and rapeling into a cenote. Worth every penny!! We had a great day. Just beware when they tell you not to take your camera because it might get wet. They assure you their photographer will take pics of you and you can buy them at the end. They were right, they did take good pics. But they were expensive to buy. I think it was $15 for each 5x7 or all the pics on a CD for $50. We opted for the CD but in hindsight, I wish I would have taken one or two disposable cameras instead. I don't think they ever would have gotten wet.

STAFF/SERVICE: Everyone at the resort was super nice. For the most part, our restaurant servers were quick and efficient, once or twice we got a slow one but that happens everywhere. The bartenders were also nice and made great drinks. The maids were very nice. In a swim-up suite you get a concierge. I can't remember the name of ours but he was very helpful and nice. We had one issue with the toilet running when we first got there. We let him know about it and then went to lunch. It was fixed by the time we got back. The ladies who checked us in and out were very quick and very nice.

Overall, if you want a relaxing, quiet vacation with good drinks and good food and a beautiful location - go to El Dorado Seaside Suites. The grounds are immaculate, the buildings are nice, everything is clean. We plan to go back for our 5 year anniversary, but wish we could go back every year. It was a fabulous honeymoon.

We thought this place was great. It was very relaxing, the food was varied and lovely - we were stumped each night where to actually eat, it took us almost a week to get through all the restaurants, before being able to go back to our fav's. The resort was lovely, and the beds on the beach were fab, even if you had to get up a little earlier to get them. The only small draw back was some of the beach was a little rocky, and you couldnt access the sea on all parts of it. It didnt bother us though, we settled oursleves on the beach just in front of the pool, where we got a bed every day and if we needed a dip used the pool. In the end we were there for a much needed break and it was perfect for this!! There was some building works taking place to update some of the rooms, and while we were close to these, we werent disturbed, and they hid all the works very descretly, we certainly couldnt hear anything from the beach - and as you dont sit in your room all day, that was fine with us!!! We also loved the fact this was adults only, so we were totally relaxed, without having to hear the noise of hundreds of children screeming the place down!

We travelled with first choice, and was not aware if you didnt book & pay for seats togther on the plane you basically didnt get them - which i thought was a but of a con, as it didnt matter how early you checked, or that we were premier customers!! They do seem to try and get additional money out of you on the flight where ever possible!! but the flight was fine and the seats roomy, which was good.

We also did some trips to see the sights, and were most dispointed with these. Being reasonable seasoned travellers, we did feel we were bussed around like a bunch of sheep on these. Huge buses collected guests from hotels, to take us all to another hotel, where we all swaped buses before finally getting off. This meant we arived at all the sites in the midday sun, with 30 or so of us to 1 guide. This was our idea of a good tour at all. In hindsight we should have booked the 3-7 day tour, and then had 7 days at teh hotel after. We met a couple of peopel who did this, and they said the groups were small, tour guides great, and as they stayed close to the sights always got their early before the big crowds and midday sun. We would def do this instead if we had the chance. That would be our big tip!!

At the end of the day this holiday was exactly what we wanted and i would reccomend the hotel to anyone!

This was our second time to this beautiful resort and we would absolutely return! It was 2006 when we were here last and that was before 100 extra rooms and 2 additional restaurants were built. I have to admit I preferred the more intimate, cozier feel when there were 200 less people here, but all in all we had a wonderful vacation and throughly enjoyed the service and amenities of this fabulous resort.
We never encountered any problems in our room except one day when our toilet seemed to stop working. We fiddled with it ourselves to no avail so we ended up calling someone to come and fix it. By the time he got there (about 2 hours after we called) the toilet miraculously began working again ... hmmm ... we felt a little silly after that. Anyway - we never experienced any problems after that with anything in our room.
Upon check-in we were greeted with a bottle of champagne in our room as we are repeat customers. That is a very nice touch but neither of us are sparkling wine drinkers so we ended up giving it away to a very nice couple we met on our last evening there.
The food was absolutely excellent ... we never once had a disappointing meal.
The staff is fantastic .... extremely friendly and very helpful ... whether it was at the restaurants, on the beach (love those beach butlers!), working the grounds or the concierge staff, we always encountered big smiles and friendly greetings. This resort gets an A+ for the staff alone!
On the beach we never got bothered by the spa people ... so I have no complaints whatsoever on the beach ... I agree with Too Lazy - some chairs are in need of repair.
The highlight in my opinion was feeding the fish ... they would literally rush up to you and start poking at your legs to see if you had anything to feed to them. Although I felt at times we only fattening up the fish for the pelicans, as they would stand watchfully by ... but that's nature I guess.
The one thing I would recommend is to get up early at least once - throw your towels on a couple of chairs and watch the sun come up - it's stunning!
All in all - a fabulous resort - the best staff - gourmet food ...
I came back feeling totally relaxed and to me - that's what a vacation is all about!

We stayed at EDSS from Dec 26/08-Jan 2/09 in a beautiful gardenview room-Bldg 24 which was a perfect location and close to everything. Resort was 97% full as this was high season and week of New Year's. Last year we also enjoyed El Dorado Royale which is much bigger and has casitas. I have been reading Trip Advisor closely for past 4 years since Hurricane Wilma for recent info. Thank you to all for helpful advice.

PROS:
Is a well landscaped clean resort with friendly staff. Say "Hola"
All rooms have jacuzzi tubs. 24 hr room service-try the Dorado club sandwich.
Could walk anywhere in 5 minutes or 10 at most
Great New Year's Eve beach party that started at 10pm with live music and good fireworks
Loved the shallow beach water which is warm in late December athough sand is coarse. Yellow flag when lifeguard is on duty.
Enter water near south rocky pier where sand is softer or wear aqua shoes because of coral. Great for snorkelling.
Staff provide beach service for drinks or picnic lunch/taco cart at noon. Delicious mojitos and pina coladas.
Sandwicherie outdoor restaurant is open all day until 5pm- enjoy freshly caught red snapper grilled on Sundays for lunch or salmon/mahimahi on ?Wed or Thurs for lunch for free.
Lobster is $70/kilo extra.
Vida restaurant is also open daily for breakfast or lunch (plus dinner and has best beef tenderloin). All dinner restaurants are open from 5:30-10pm.

Thanks to Ignatio and all his breakfast staff at Arrecifides for amazing service - great omelettes and fried eggs plus small breakfast buffet daily.
Ask for mimosas (champagne and orange juice) and then cappucinos after breakfast. Tip with US $1 bills.

See board postings outside of entrance to Sandwicherie Restaurant for activities.
10 am-daily yoga or Spanish lessons
11am and afternoon- Beach volleyball
11 am - Snorkelling lesson
12 noon - Aquafit in pool
1pm - cooking class twice weekly -delicious guacamole recipe
9:30pm - short evening entertainment

CONS:
Need to reserve beach beds by 7am
Put toilet paper in waste basket container and not down toilet to prevent plugging
Pool water was cold and difficult entry as no cement stairs in main pool
Road construction (northbound only) which adds an extra 30-45 minutes on return trip to airport, or to early evening shopping visit to 5th Avenue at Playa Del Carmen. Buy only 925 or 950 stamped silver.

In summary, it was paradise and seems now like it was a beautiful dream.

My wife and I just stayed here from Feb 9-16, 09. I can tell you that we had an amazing time and will probably be going back in the next couple of years.
I could be pretty biased in this review beings we received a room upgrade for no good reason. It sure was nice to have a swim up room when I had only paid for gardenview. I'm not sure I would have enjoyed my stay quite as much if I had to do the whole 'up at 7 to reserve a beach bed' thing. Most days we just chilled on our patio for the morning then went to the bars or beach in the afternoon. Awesome option to have. If you do have this style room make sure you haul your loungers partway out of the water as they have a tendency to float away on you if you aren't paying attention.
The food here is awesome! I could have stayed an extra week just to try the other things on the menu that looked absolutely awesome. I went the whole week and only repeated 1 meal: the pork patay in the asian restaurant for my last dinner. Portion sizes are smaller as you are meant to have multiple courses. If you have an appetizer, maybe some soup, a roll or two then the main you are very satisfied. And I'm a bit of a food lover so when I say you are full, you are FULL. I think the wife had one or two meals she wasnt keen on but other than that I cant say enough good things about the food.
If you are the type who is looking for a ton of food buffet style, or you just want meat and taters then this place is not for you. It is gourmet, and some of the food is fancy. Just a heads up.
Staff is amazing. The personal concierge is a great resource, even if they do try to get you to go to a sales pitch. They arent too pushy about it though and they can help you book trips, they have towels, beach dinners, spa treatments...anything you need. They definitely want you to be happy with your room, so feel free to mention any little thing to them. We requested housekeeping come earlier in the day so we could siesta and they were there by late morning at the latest from then on in.
The staff speak fairly good english. A little spanish goes a LONG way though. We had a couple of times where my wife was asking for something and they had no idea what she was talking about...but no big deal they would just have the hostess or manager come over to translate.
I would say the best thing about the staff is that everyone seems to be trying to do their job well, and make sure you are enjoying your stay. Everyone is polite, the service is fast, and the rose petals and champagne delivered to the room on valentines was a nice touch. I tried to pass it off like I arranged for that but my wife knew I'm just not that thoughtful.
Make sure you go to the orientation meeting with paul from signature/ first choice. He's got some good info for you and he is yet another resource for trips, problems, etc. Seems like a good guy and he puts on an entertaining show for the group.
There were some negatives to the resort: the beach is not pretty (we arent big beach bums anyway). There is no option for early check in which really sucks when your wife has a migraine and just needs to lay down in the dark. The rest were really nitpicky things like they didn't have fitted sheets for the mattress.
If you have a nut allergy, this is a concept that seems completely alien to everyone down there. I would recomend printing out what you are allegic to in spanish so you can show your waiter in order to avoid any confusion. Use one of the online translators if you have to. It makes life a lot easier.
Overall I was just happy as heck with el dorado seaside. I will be going back, it is just a matter of when

Beautiful property, gorgeous grounds, tons of staff to take care of your every need, great restaurants, beautiful room with a whirlpool tub and super comfortable bed, what's not to like? If you are a swim in the ocean person the beach is a little rocky so you might want to take some swim shoes; however, I didn't bring any and I was fine. The activities staff works overtime to provide a fun experience, lots of activities to choose from to suit every interest. Our favorite restaurant by far was the Italian restaurant. The drinks are great. They don't require tipping but we brought $50 in ones with us so that we could tip our favorite waiters, bartenders, etc. We also left a dollar or two for the maid every day and as a result I got all the diet coke I wanted! I highly recommend this property!

Just got back from a brilliant week at the Eldorado seaside suites.17-24 Jan.
We had a very long delay at Gatwick and nearly decided to call it a day and go home. Glad we didn't!!!
Everything about Eldorado is excellent.
The food is nothing short of stunning, along with the restuarant settings and the service.
Gourmet food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Quite amazing.
Ignore any negative reviews, unless you prefer to eat cold, bland buffet food.
Room was massive and clean with 4 poster bed, jacuzzi, t.v, dvd player and mini bar. If you did not fancy getting out for something to eat there was always the 24 hour room service!!
Ground were immaculate and the beach is very good, but maybe a bit small for when the hotel is full.
On to the Drinks!!!
On the Tuesday of our great week we met a group of very nice people. Barry and the clan. You know who you are and how irresponsible you were!!!!!!!!
They were fantastic. After the amount of tequilas "forced" upon us, I am surprised that we made it back to our room.
Great time and would go back in an instant.

loved everything about the hotel and country and enjoyed our holiday very much. The restuarants are superb as is the service .You must try the room service, the breakfasts are lovely.Loved the swim up pools. The day trip into the jungle is unforgetable great fun with zip lining and absailing down into a cenote. The very big upset for us was the fact we left our camcorder in a bar where it was handed into a barman (we were told by wittnesses )but it was not returned to us unfortunatly the family who handed it in had gone home. The barman is no Angel!!!!!!!!
